hayden james // hayden james ep

hayden james  //  hayden james ep

Hayden James will turn your ears out. It’s as simple as that. This Australian crooner serves it up hot and sticky with little room for resistance. Back in June he hit us hard with his Permission To Love joint, and even though its been several months since many have yet to recover. On his recently released and self-titled EP via Future Classic, the track Permission To Love is neatly packaged and scantily clad along side four additional lush tracks. Maybe its the coming Fall weather that has me stocking up on the slow and sensual jams. For playa’s and lovers alike know cold weather ’tis the season for snugglin’ and close quarter romance, right? And Hayden James is standard issue for undercover extracurricular “activities” and akin to throwing another log on the fire. Peace. Continue reading “hayden james // hayden james ep”

basecamp | basecamp ep

basecamp  //  basecamp ep

Although BASECAMP may hail from Nashville, Tennessee this this trio of producers, singers and songwriters uproot any and all preconceptions of what geography may dictate.  Yet, in todays’ modern age of a musical world without borders is it really surprising that they sound like a sponge dropped into the bucket of R&B forethought, afterthought and future thought? No, not really. Listen to their self-titled BASECAMP EP and luxuriate within sensual bass and lush synth bubbles for theirs is a sound replete with lavender scented candles alight with flickering flame. The BASECAMP release includes four wondrous tracks and each one is scintillatingly hot (my fav is 2 Thingz). Listen to all after the jump and download them all for FREE! How freakin’ cool is that. Enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “basecamp | basecamp ep”

clavius crates // ice accountant (our sunday best)

Such an easy pick for Our Sunday Best series. Local Michigan homeboys Ian Finkelstein and Clavius Crates, the former provided production and the latter performs the ultra chilli-most track Ice Accountant. I think it’s smooth like butta’ but I would love to hear your thoughts. Peace.

Lyrics:

Can you feel
my thoughts?
Have you healed?
I’m lost.
Hold my hand
in yours.

I don’t own love
but it flows
through my veins.
I know no one
if I hold
you away.

baths // ironworks + miasma sky

baths  //  ironworks + miasma sky

For mercurial L.A. music-maker Will Wiesenfeld, Baths has been a long time coming. The 21-year-old has spent the better part of his days living amidst “pleasant” and “unremarkable” in the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley, so perhaps it’s due to a general lack of local inspiration that Wiesenfeld’s own work has never fit into a prefab box of its own. Over the last six years, under the handle of [Post-Foetus], Wiesenfeld has gainfully explored the intersections and outer reaches of both electronic and acoustic music. With Baths, his eclecticism finds its greatest focus yet, in a hail of lush melodies, ghostly choirs, playful instrumentation and stuttering beats. Peace. tree  //  karma police (official video)

The way out west artist Tree (Oliver Nickell) recently co-directed the video to his astounding Radiohead Karma Police cover. And although the video works well and a visual vehicle it is his re-imagining of the song that sends shivers all over my earlobe. So far, Tree’s Karma Police is my favorite cover of 2013!

Check out the debut Demons EP is available on vinyl via Apollo and R&S Records. Peace.

orange creme // glass disco ep

orange creme // glass disco ep

This is the sound of after hours New York disco. It is familiar and haunting. Cosmic and analog. At times reminiscent of Lindstrom, and Todd Terje but with its own unique Brooklyn atmosphere.

On the first track: Night Train, the rhythm is gorgeous disco funk, with stabs of glittering synths – and a middle section that surprises with hazy, bubbling arpeggios that seem stolen from an italo soundtrack.

Sunset Drive is a more intense four-to-the-floor cut. The rubbery bass intertwining with waves of shimmering, repetitive synth lines over a deep, driving kick and detailed percussion. It’s a track that takes 1990’s house and re-imagines it as psychedelic deep disco.

It is available online for free download and in a limited edition cassette at record stores in NYC on Cassette Store Day, September 7th.
Details will be posted on our website. Thank you for your time and for listening. Peace. Continue reading “orange creme // glass disco ep”
