kate bush // eider falls at lake tahoe + video

It all started many moons ago, way back in 1978 when The Kick Inside was released, and a then 19-year old Kate Bush came bursting onto the music scene. And now, here we are, the year is 2012 and boy has it been an impressive career for Ms. Bush. Long before Björk, Tori Amos or more recently a Florence and The Machine, there was this scrappy, albeit eclectic, force of nature with her soon-to-become trademark voice, and a penchant for literature, modern dance and the color red. Finally, after so many seasons, (her last previous release was Aerial (2005) the wait is over. With the release of 50 Words For Snow (November 2011) we are given the usual gifts we’ve come to expect from Kate Bush, and we are more than happy to have them. The latest single “Eider Falls At Lake Tahoe” has an accompanying video directed by none other than Kate Bush herself. In a nutshell, it illustrates the tale of a faithful dog missing its master who has recently passed. Like so many, I am an adoring fan and with good reason, hers is the stuff of angels’ breath and utterly melodious meditation. Although you never know what to expect from Kate Bush, you can always count on her sense of beauty to win out over all else.  Kate Bush, brings together the universe in the tiny, yet potent capsules of her songs. Her oeuvre is dotted with an array of star-lit odes, which make up a dazzling constellation. So, cock your ear to the heavens and listen, her stars are falling beautifully; all around. Peace. Howler – The Back Of Your Neck

Minneapolis band Howler sound like they know how to rock out. Jordan Gatesmith (vocals / guitar), Ian Nygaard (guitar), France Camp (bass), Max Petrek (keyboard) and Brent Mayes (drums) are winning over many new fans in droves. Also, the five-piece has been spending a lot of time in the studio putting the finishing touches on their full-length, America Give Up. Their debut EP This One’s Different is out now. Expect the forthcoming LP America Give Up to drop January 16th 2012 UK/Eur and stateside January 17th. But right now check out their Robert Semmer directed video for “The Back of Your Neck.”  I love this song, so catchy. Peace. Continue reading “Howler – The Back Of Your Neck”

now, now // giants

Instantly I liked this. It’s the tickling synth intro. Then the gently thrummed guitar. It’s the steady uphill climb until the sun breaks out and singer-keyboardist-guitarist Cacie Dalager opens her mouth. She had me at, “If I believed in god I would not have done the things you’ve done…” What is there to do against such a song? Nothing. Just try and be still and attune every fiber of your being to the task of listening and absorbing every single note. “Giants” is a formidable and precious song, even more so in its acoustic version. Which is also available on their EP Neighbors. Their album dropped last year 2010, but so what, it’s still brilliantly awesome. Peace.

P.S. Is Cacie Dalager channeling Harriet Wheeler? Just a thought. Continue reading “now, now // giants”

Japandroids – Post Nothing

I’m going to post this because I like it, a lot. When I first heard this band I spent a great deal of time touting them to so many of my friends. And although it’s been over two years since Japandroids ( Brian King and David Prowse) dropped Post Nothing it still remains among the top plays on my iPod. There is one simple reason to take this track home with you… IT FLAT OUT ROCKS BALLS! Peace.

I’ve also included the studio version as well below, check it.
