denitia and sene | divided | official video

.

Smooth like smoke from the tip of a Cuban cigar, and as sensuous as morning love, electro-soul duo Denitia & Sene not only exude sexy through their music, they invent it. The Brooklyn-based musicians came together a year ago with a shared vision to bring truth and ingenuity to stylistic music, and they’ve held their ambitions high ever since. Simple. Rare. Sumptuous. Bold.

They’ve been influenced by a range of sonic proclivities. Thus, their work is distinguished not by genre, but attention to free verse, and the magic that transpires between darkness and light. It’s film noir for audiophiles – chic, hip and alluring – and together, they have broken down personal limits to forge a bond surpassing all expectations.

With their latest single, “Divided,” listeners are treated once again to a sensuous sound morsel which only serves to whet our collective appetites for so much more. And we also get plenty more, for there are optics too. The official Divided video puts clothes upon the lyrics and music. But, it not only reveals more artistically it imprints fantasy and ecstasy inside where the our hearts beat.

sensual harassment // escape from alpha draconis ep + video

Sensual Harassment is the musical twosome (vocalist Craig Finn and guitarist Tad Kubler) from the Williamsburg locale of Brooklyn, NYC. Here’s a band with a strong sentiment for 80’s rock and the then burgeoning neo-Disco movement of the same decade (New Order, Erasure and Echo & The Bunnymen come to mind). Their songs spring to life all fizzy and full of pop, and do the caress your ear thingy like a would be paramour of substantial…um dexterity? If you haven’t, check out the very enjoyable and finger lickin’ good Escape From Alpha Draconis EP out now. After the jump check out the new six-song EP and the Capri Suntan video. Peace. small black // breathless + official video

The cover of Brooklyn-based Small Black‘s second LP, Limits of Desire, features a photo of a man and a woman embracing on either side of a ladder, completely naked, divided by its triangular arc. They’re close, but they can’t get any closer. It’s a moving depiction of connectivity and interaction in the 21st century and it serves as a sort of source code for the record. emily schuna | human nature records

Emily Schuna is the founder of Human Nature Records based in Brooklyn, NYC. They’re smallish but good, like a shot of quality tequila and just as musically potent.

emily schuna  //  human nature records

Emily Schuna founded Human Nature Records and since they’re a smallish outfit (but oh so good) I thought I’d offer a bit of exposure. And, since I’m a big Justin Vernon/Bon Iver fan let’s get things started with a remix Ms. Schuna composed for the Indaba remix competition a while back. After the jump you’ll see a couple additional artists on the Human Nature roster. Hope you like ’em. Peace. Continue reading “emily schuna | human nature records”

the national // sea of love + video

Inhale. The National is one of those serious bands. A great band no doubt, just no funnin’ around. Musically, they’re akin to a strong quality whiskey kept under lock and key. Only to siphoned from under the most dire circumstances. You have only to reference the Brooklyn-based band’s previous album High Violet to find this to be especially true. But in perfect contrast to the stone-faced rigidity the previous LP flaunted, the latest album Trouble Will Find Me (4AD) finally finds the guys taking a more subdued stance. Exhale.

Band member Aaron Devendorf describes their recent post-High Violet sound as, ” “ … more airy, less uptight and anxious. He sent me a lot of Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Dylan and David Bowie. And Bryce and I wanted a more relaxed and open sound too. We’d been getting deeper into the world of composed music in the last few years and developing more of an interest in classic songwriting.”

After the jump look, and listen to the song, Sea Of Love and experience the evolution of The National. Peace. Continue reading “the national // sea of love + video”
