chet faker | built on glass | talk is cheap | official video

Chet Faker has been plying his trade for a minute or two now, making it look easy as he drops track after track of irresistible music. And now this certified soul-man has gone and dropped his debut tour de force, Built On Glass (Downtown Records) and there isn’t an ounce of fragility within a light year of this release. Peep the Toby & Pete-directed video below.

The tracks are boisterous and sensual just like everything else Mr. Faker has touched in the past few years. Yes, he keep it frosty and no doubt he is moving with confidence. Get Built On Glass via iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “chet faker | built on glass | talk is cheap | official video”

rainy milo // deal me briefly

With barely a fistful of songs the young neophyte and Neo R&B/Pop princess Rainy Milo is fast becoming quite the prolific artist with yet another release. Check out her latest, the Deal Me Briefly track was produced by down under soul-man Chet Faker and this track sounds a lot more grown up and musically sophisticated than her previous offerings. This one twists and undulates hypnotically through your ears and goads the body to respond likewise. Additional work includes both her Limey and Black & Blonde EPs. Check ’em out. Peace. the st. jerome’s laneway festival detroit 2013

The end of Summer can’t get here soon enough!

My head is literally spinning. No, not from overindulgence of the mind altering sort. But, from the total euphoria which comes from good news. The year is 2013 and what a year it will be. This the inaugural year of the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival Detroit. Yeah, Detroit! Like right down the street from me. I’m excited. The Motor City is finally getting it’s groove back, and with an international music line-up it’s sure to be one of the nation’s premiere music venues to take in this summer. Laneway Festival Detroit takes place on Sept. 14th at Meadow Brook Music Festival in Rochester Hills, Mich. Ticket info HERE. After the jump, check out one of the highlights that’ll be bringin’ it this year. Peace. Continue reading “the st. jerome’s laneway festival detroit 2013”

say lou lou // fool of me (ft. chet faker)

The smeared pastels of sadness lay ‘gainst mine ear like wilted weeping flowers…

Allow me to introduce your ears to the the Australian/Swedish twins (Miranda and Elektra Kilbey) duo Say Lou Lou. Recently the ladies released their Julian EP single: a-side Julian & the b-side Fool Of Me Ft. Chet Faker via their newly minted label à Deux.

While the former track Julian is good enough, it is the b-side track Fool Of Me Ft. Chet Faker which demands your attention. Fool Of Me is Absinthe garnished with a muddled heart, and served with the shaky hand of an unkind fate. The instrumentation is misleading too, while managing to be both bouyant and somber conjointly, with scant striations of ambient noise like a faulty pulse heralding love’s end. This song is clearly Morse Code shedding it’s S.O.S. within trails of tear stain. And then there’s Chet Faker threading his gaunt vocals with masculine discontent, and reckless honesty, “I’ve been told, I am cold, been known to sting. Forgive me I have sinned.  See the eyes burn too, I’m a brute shooting from the hip straight into your heart…it’s ok they’re be plenty more.” What a fils de bast!

The rumor mill is working overtime, projecting an LP from Say Lou Lou sometime this summer. My finger bones are crossed, are yours? Also, I’ve included last year’s video for the track Maybe You from their EP courtesy of Kitsuné Records. Peace. Continue reading “say lou lou // fool of me (ft. chet faker)”

chet faker | i’m into you | video

Chet Faker isn’t an artist shrouded in mystery. A bit of mystique? Yes. This talented singer/songwriter/producer wears his intent, and perhaps his heart too, on his musical sleeve. No secret either how the music he creates is just plain lovely. I also find Chet Faker to be fearless, or maybe it’s just high-octane confidence, either way it’s all good. Here is an artist who can tackle Radiohead’s song Nude and reduce it to its spiritual essence, no mean feat. And CF is equally comfortable (and very capable) of reaching into the R&B archives of 1996 and polishing off Blackstreet’s No Diggity by Blackstreet into a new-found glowing radiance. After the jump, check out Chet Faker’s secret live session performing his very own, I’m Into You at S.O.TERIK‘s Showcase at SXSW presented by FILTER Magazine. Peace. chet faker // terms and conditions (video)

I’m adding Melbourne, Australia artist Chet Faker (Nick Murphy) to my list of new favs, and with good reason. What originally, and ultimately, won me over was his sumptuous re-edit of Radiohead’s song “Nude” with its drawn out slow-motion honey drip treatment which clings to your soul like sticky whale song. But that was only the beginning of my new-found addiction. Now, with his latest “Terms And Conditions” I have arrived at the epicenter of full-on famdom and it’s a great place to be. Check out the mini-lineup of songs after the jump, and of course there is a visual to massage your corneas into bliss. Peace. Continue reading “chet faker // terms and conditions (video)”
