Supreme Cuts // Whispers In The Dark

Chicago-based astralnauts Mike Perry and Austin Kjeultes are Supreme Cuts, emphasis on ‘Supreme’! This talented duo take hip hop, and whatever else they can get their hands on, and orchestrate it into a hybrid of shape-shifting sonics. Their forthcoming album Whisper in the Dark, via Dovecote Records, is due to drop July 12th. But until then I got a little something sumpin’ sumpin’. Also, I after the jump you can listen to the dynamic duo’s Trouble EP, of which the opening track “Silkk” is pure celestial goodness. Peace. Continue reading “Supreme Cuts // Whispers In The Dark”

Willis Earl Beal / / Away My Silent Lover

A thing rare is a thing cherished, and the music of Willis Earl Beal is rare indeed. The Chicago native has endured many situations and when he opens his mouth to sing, what comes forth is a music tempered in fire and cooled in to deep rivers of the blues. Listen to “Away My Silent Lover” taken from the forthcoming LP Acousmatic Sorcery and you’ll be bowled over and wanting so much more. You can pre-order the album on iTunes. Peace. Air Tycoon / / Land Locked

There resides within the music of Air Tycoon poetry aplenty. Epic tomes stitched through with canticles and the laughter of mermaids frolicking amongst whitecaps and the cry of seagulls. There are arias too, beleaguered and redolent with beauteous moods, and deep within these sounds swirls nautiluses and the gossamer breath of long-winded eternity. Joe Garcia bka Air Tycoon is a young architect of audibles trills, an apprentice of the highest order, and he erects sonic edifices with little effort, yet with much meaning in the heart of the listener. I can only bow my head and offer a soul-felt thanks you. Peace. Continue reading “Air Tycoon / / Land Locked”

The Hood Internet // Touch One (Khaled + Drake + Rick Ross + Lil’ Wayne + Holy Other + Supreme Cuts)

If you’re down, then you’re down. Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV) known as The Hood Internet are down. And what exactly does being down entail. Well, for starters it means not having limitations regarding what a song or track can be. Then also, being down translates into being fearless, in that you follow your heart, and the groove wherever it takes you. On both counts the Chicago-based duo more than fit the bill. And if you’re not familiar check ’em out, but it’s going to take some doing because The Hood Internet’s back catalog is massive, like juggernaut style massive. For instance, if one could take all the mind alternating grooves they’ve collectively produced over the years and put then end to end they would ring Nirvana infinitely. Check out what these two gifted sound surgeons have done with the track “Touch One,” they’ve taken some of hip-hops finest and set them adrift upon a compendium of  sensuous sound waves. They’ve enwrapped them one and all is a soft gossamer shroud, and more importantly, nary a street cred was harmed in the making of this remix. You want more? Well, you can cop this track and plenty more at www.thehoodinternet.com Peace. Continue reading “The Hood Internet // Touch One (Khaled + Drake + Rick Ross + Lil’ Wayne + Holy Other + Supreme Cuts)”

wild belle // keep you

Chicago-based brother/sister duo Wild Belle (Natalie Bergman & Elliot Bergman) take dancehall/reggae to a whole new flavor level (think golden-sunshine-cosmic-mango) and it’s so tasty to your ears, kinda like a frosty Red Stripe with sonic implications. The song “Keep You” will put you in the right mood with it’s sunshine bubblyness and Caribbean groove. You can get your own addictive ray of musical sunshine that is “Keep You” on iTunes. Peace. Air Tycoon // Winter Purple

At first listen you may ask yourself, “How can a mere 19-year old make such beautiful music?” Well, I’m not sure of the answer 19-year old Air Tycoon, bka Joe Garcia would give, and the only thing I can offer is a shrug of the shoulders and to implore you to just enjoy the music this young man is putting out. And putting it out good music for Air Tycoon seems to be quite the prolific thing to do. Since August of 2011 his output has included 4-EPs of high-caliber music. And it’s really nice of  Mr. Garcia to keep me in the loop whenever a new joint drops. And, I’m just glad to be on the ground floor with a good vantage point, so I can watch Air Tycoon’s climb higher and oh so higher! Listen to his latest Winter Purple release. And although I have the latest Winter Purple LP here after the jump, you have to go to his bandcamp and read his postscript. Totally badass. Peace.  Continue reading “Air Tycoon // Winter Purple”
