If you like joyous post-punkish rock then The Pastels fit the bill hands down. They got rhythm and a spunky hair in your face sensibility to keep on smile plastered all over your sunny good time. Check out the song Check My Heart and Illuminum Song which is softer and gentler and also the b-side to the ‘Check My Heart’ single. Ducktails is the once solo-project of one Matt Mondanile (also a member of Real Estate). at any rate the uno has now become a full-fledged 5-piece band. over the summer they released their forth album ‘The Flower Lane’ via Domino Records. recorded and mixed over the summer of 2012 with Al Carlson (Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never) the ten-track album is filled with mellow soaked tracks dripping with the essence of summer time bliss. here, take a listen to “Flower Lane” and my fav “Letter of Intent”. peace. i have been a fan of the amazing band villagers helmed by the very talented (understatement) conner j. o’brien and although the band’s sophomore album ‘awayland’ is due to drop january 3rd i highly recommend checking out the band’s debut release ‘becoming a jackal‘ to get a feel for this band’s complete mastery of intelligent and thematic indie-pop. in my humble estimation this is a band more people should become familiar with, you’ll thank yourself later. after the jump check out the video for the song, “waves” and enjoy. peace. real estate alum-matt mondale will soon release his latest solo project under the name ducktails. and although the name may be a bit irregular the noise from the coming album ‘the flower lane’ via domino records (drops january 29th)is anything but. listen to the song, “the flower lane” and experience a bit of indie style emo served over a soft bed of moon dream. after four prior releases one can definitely hear the growth and maturity, and it sounds as if everything is in its right place. peace. the latest video from the dirty projectors for the song, “about to die” is an excerpt from the david longstreth short film ‘hi custodian‘, which is basically a long form visual orgy of the band’s latest lp ‘swing lo magellan‘. on november 5th be on the look out for the band’s ‘about to die ep‘ which will feature three brand new songs. also, the love the video for all its holy men commingling with bikini clad beauties. so epic. peace.
