kilo kish // k+

It is so true. Perhaps even truer than true. Kilo Kish has had a very spectacular year. By almost anyone’s estimation or finger in the wind, 2013 was a pivotable 365 days for this young mc/muse/model. Indeed Ms. Lakisha Robinson turned a lot of heads in her direction. Her brand of music manages to be a whole bunch of things at once. It is easy to hear the playful creativity in her music too. The songs sound more akin to intimate journal entries rather than tracks laid in a studio. As if the secret world of a private diary somehow managed to gather beats as clothes and walk the soundscape of our collective ears. If you haven’t already check out her Mixtape K+. But don’t let her coy coquettish delivery fool you, there is a bit of meat and potatoes on them musical bones. If anything her’s is a balanced mix of light-hearted levity and serious girl talk, and what is clears from tracks 1 through 10, is she is one of us. All the attention and the  Elle, Vogue, etc. photo shoots haven’t gone to her head. Oh and her treatment of Jordan Knight’s (Give It 2 U) deserves a place on your slow jams mix. Peace. the hood internet // doin it good + kanye west + daft punk + free download

the hood internet   //  doin it good  +  kanye west  + daft punk + free download

Summer 2013 pretty much belongs to Daft Punk and the release of their much lauded Random Access Memories LP. Point and set. Yet, there is another artist who’ll also be remembered in the year of our lord MMXIII. Enter Mr. Kanye West and his groundbreaking Yeezus LP. And as big as the former two acts are (they’re so not acting) there is two unsung heroes of the summer (and spring, autumn and winter too).

The Chicago-based dj/producer duo known worldwide as The Hood Internet. These guys are the precious golden thread, who often conjoin the urban with the suburban, taking the grit and grime and the globally inaccessible then carefully stitching them together like Siamese dreams. But on a higher plateau The Hood Internet perform a greater service, as global ambassadors: bridging cultures and gettin’ the party started. They rock the rural and roll the sublime, blending them into a potent tonic poured over sub-zero and multifaceted crushed ice. It’s a hard concept to understand without experiencing it firsthand or in this case firstear.

If you missed it then you’re in for a treat, as you listen to the superlative mash-up. The “Doin It Good,” remix takes the Hip-Hop fun of Kanye’s Good Life and marries it to the effortless euphoria of Daft Punk’s Doin’ It Right. This is an “all day everyday” anthem. Also, peep The Hood Internet’s The Mixtape Volume Seven. It is jammed packed with goodies and hoodies. Peace. childish gambino // eat your vegetables

childish gambino // eat your vegetables

All rappers are not created equal. It’s a fact worth knowing. Donald Glover bka Childish Gambino is poised to methodically carve out a special niche in the world of Rap and Hip Hop. It’s the geeky, nerdy and oh so proper Negro thing to do, it works for him. His is a new kind of brand new, and although the establishment seems unfit to market him his growing fan base will more than rise to the occasion and by word of mouth do his marketing for him.

On the track Eat Your Vegetables we hear CB waxing poetically about Trayvon, among other things, and it’s nice to see the facets of growth and maturity shine through. Be on the lookout for a forthcoming Mixtape Childish Gambino soon. And if the photo has you flummoxed, well it just may be the graphics to said soon to be released mixtape. Peace.
