Poliça‘s forthcoming release United Crushers is expected to drop in March along with our collective hearts! SIGH! I adore (read obsessed) this little indie band that could, would and should be a part of music playlist, if only you let ’em in. Why for? Well, I’ll give you one reason, Channy Leaneagh and her wickedly mellifluous voice! EEEKK! Yes, I gotta check myself before I wreck myself! Okay, I got two thing. First, check out the track Lately after the jump. And secondly, you gotta’ feast your eyes on a The Current live session featuring Poliça playing their track Wedding. Good stuff! That’s all I got, for now. Peace. Continue reading “poliça | lately”

The Minneapolis-based band’s new album Shulamith drops October 22nd courtesy of Mom + Pop Records (US), October 21st on Memphis Industries (UK), and October 18th on Inertia (Aus). Check out the band’s latest track Smug, it’s pretty much it more of the same ole good stuff from spectacular band. Wad up Doc?

Poliça’s track Tiff remixed by The Weeknd, Drake producer Doc McKinney

Last month, Poliça unveiled the graphic NABIL-directed video for Tiff. Along with the clip, the band released the cover art and track release for their forthcoming LP, Shulamith. Today, the band have announced an October 22nd date for the album, and offered up a re-envisioned version of Tiff, helmed by Drake-collaborator and producer behind The Weeknd, Doc McKinney.

Listen to the track after the jump, and head over to thisispolica.com for Shulamith cover art and album lyrics. Peace.

poliça // tiff + justin vernon = official music video

A sonic homage to radical feminism never sounded so darn good!

My favorite Minnesota band (Sorry, Now, Now) Poliça has a new song (and video) wherein lead vocalist Channy Leaneagh interrogates her doppelgänger to a literal bloody mess. Let’s see, there’s punching, choking and bit of water boarding for good measure. Sounds like a recipe for throwing a “Tiff,” if I ever saw one. But violence aside, the song also features Mr. Justin Vernon and is taken from the band’s forthcoming sophomore release Shulamith out later this year. poliça // the maker (gardens and villa remix)

You’ve likely noticed (if you have a history here) that I’ve reviewed several songs by Poliça and here is yet another reason for me to continue my on-going admiration for this great Minnesota band.

Dropping August 14th, Mom + Pop Music will reissue Poliça‘s recently released debut album Give You The Ghost. SPIN.com described the Ryan Olson and Jim Eno produced band’s sound as “tough, R&B-bent, live wire electronica that doubles as Auto-Tune delight.”

In Addition, Poliça (Channy Leaneagh, Chris Bierden, Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu) will also release The Dark Star EP with reinterpretations of tracks by the likes of Exitmusic, Aluxe and others. Good stuff. Here, “The Maker,” the impressive production duo Gardens & Villa have worked their collective magic for the Dark Star Remix EP. I can’t wait to here the rest of the EP. Peace. poliça // wandering star (official video)

The ring is on my hand,
And the wreath is on my brow;
Satin and jewels grand
Are all at my command,
And I am happy now.

~ Edgar Allan Poe

I thought an excerpt from the prince of melancholy would be utterly and resoundingly appropriate for this the official release of the latest video, “Wandering Star” by Poliça.  This ELY directed visualscape is so damn beautiful and I may and will lose hours getting lost watching it’s saddening and exquisite beauty . Peace. Continue reading “poliça // wandering star (official video)”

Poliça // Lay Your Cards Out (Video) + New Tour Dates

The band Poliça just added additional tour dates for 2012 and I’m ever so thankful.  I missed their show in Chicago and now I’ll be able see them here in Michigan! Poliça has got to be one of the sexiest bands in existence today. Yeah it’s the music, but without a doubt Channy Casselle-Leaneagh is a major ingredient to their appeal with her (she’ll hate for this ) pixieish good looks and seductive singing voice and style. A big thumbs up to one of most darling records in my collection. Peace. Continue reading “Poliça // Lay Your Cards Out (Video) + New Tour Dates”

poliça | the maker

Poliça

I just purchased Give You The Ghost by the quasi-R&B band Poliça and I am thoroughly mesmerized. Their debut album was released way ahead of the February 14th Valentine’s Day date previously given and I’m not complaining at all.

The Gayngs majordomo Ryan Olson co-produced Give You the Ghost with Jim Eno. And when couple these talents which the likes of lead-vocalist Channy Leneagh’s the result is hair raising.

Check out a 89.3 The Current live set of the wondrous song “The Maker,”. You’re going to fall hard for Poliça. Peace. Continue reading “poliça | the maker”

Poliça – Dark Star

Like so many of us the song “Dark Star” by Poliça inhabits a recognizable duality. Its public face, if not pristine, then at least scrubbed clean, makes itself presentable. By turns, it offers small cordial conversation and laughs at your inane jokes. But the private face, it is pallid and it doesn’t sleep well among the echoing ghosts haunting a disheveled parlor. “Dark Star,” in-between the brassy horns, scintillating bass, and voodoo drum-work there is the centerpiece of Channy Caselle-Leaneagh‘s voice. A voice on which this debut album draw its connective tissue and hangs flesh. Throughout every song, there is a soul with a dark mood too. It is the same mood which inhabits a song and draws you down, much like the Joy Division’s “Heart and Soul,” Peter Murphy’s “Cut You Up” or The Cure’s “Disintegration.” We all know this place, and although it appears dark, it is also a place of quiet strength. It’s very hard to resist a song like this, because it speaks to us in hushed comforting whispers. And, while we at times damn ourselves for whatever reasons, a song like this says, “I got you,” and we lean our head on its cold, yet sturdy shoulder. Peace. Continue reading “Poliça – Dark Star”
