Abra is a shot in the dark. A kind of drive-by shooting unloading with unavoidable musical scatter shot, your hit and bleeding fragmented beats and muted synths. But instead of a disorienting ringing in your ears you get something newly nostalgic and soul soothing. Abra presents a refreshingly odd school slash old school sound persona, and it is both highly desirous and wickedly adept at being sleek, sly and sumptuously delicious. If Technotronic and Aaliyah fooled around around in the spacious backseat of a 93′ Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham whelp Arba would be the ensuing winsome lovechild.

Peep Abra’s debut Rose release and you’ll be pleased as spiked punch. The music comes at you at the speed of a lover’s wispy breath wrapped in Hennessy and blunt smoke. It drifts on wings set afire and blood greased gears drip dropping into chalices for your consumption; a sacrificial offering just to get you closer to the truthful honesty of her music. Know this, pay attention to this one, and with 12 tracks of sugarfied beats and slushy cold production this is quite possibly the chill out spectacle of the summer. Peace.

If ever one could lasso a cumulus cloud and melt it, then drip drop the soft rain glow against one’s ears I am pretty certain it would like replicate Sally Shapiro’s giant-sized petite vocals. Here, Johan Agebjörn and Ms. Shapiro take the Electric Youth track The Best Thing and treat it like a bejeweled whisper. Its lovely stuff.

Johan Agebjörn’s latest solo album, Notes; is a dreamy, melancholic and mostly instrumental collection of songs. The music is quite different to the music he has produced earlier, both with Sally Shapiro and alone. The nexus for the album was the electric piano sound of the Casio MT­52, a cheap keyboard from the early 80s that was mostly used on an amateur level. It’s used (together with other sounds) on almost every track on the album.

Alabama Shakes is a band of unassuming wonder and mesmerizing candor. In 2012 they spilled the coolest beans with their (Boys & Girls) release. We know the carnage their collective artistry waged; left us drunk on lust and languid. We were loved and tossed, lovingly bruised, and in the end left spent, yet still groping under the covers for one more warm feel. We now know Britney Howard as a bonafide soul woman, a southern rock goddess personified and a lyrical groit with solar powered lungs that’ll fuck you up if your ears can’t hold your their auricular liquor.

Here we are in 2015 and living through AB‘s follow-up Sound & Color album, and as we listen our way through it we are once again rewarded with gooey and spectacularly sensate songs with enough variation and dexterity as to leave us defenseless and overdosing (once again) on the beautiful splendor of it all. Strung out notes pelt listeners and we are bade to feel almost too much. We get caught up in the tumult of songs dug out from under rusty hearts and hurt and slightly warped minds. Certainly Sound & Color is a wild ride and we’ve come to all on the chin quite well. Peace.
