Teeny Lieberson and company have spun out (through not fault of their own) yet another wonderfully jollified diversion. The music this band puts out is multi-useful too. Say you’re one to worry about such mundane things as so-in-so liking you or the overdue mortgage. Well, this is the album you most assuredly need to drop the needle on muy pronto! Sorority Noise are solidly east coasters hailing from good old Hartford, Connecticut. And obviously good old Hartford is a pretty good place to stare up an indie rock band. This winsome foursome dedecks their It Kindly Stopped For Me EP with introspective and thoughtful odes to the sour side of living. But it isn’t a bad thing, is it? The rawness and vulnerability of the songs reveal giving fragile hearts and a lovelorn of intimate proportions. Losing someone sucks eggs, but this collection of songs are a bit of catharsis, reached for and obtained, amid a sometimes life of shit. Peace.

Philadelphia indie garage rockers Hop Along gives us a beyond ample excuse to revisit 2012. It was a quaint little album titled Get Disowned and an even obscurer foursome bearing the appellation Hop Along. Seems unassuming enough, except not. Now all would have been well and fine, and the band may well have enjoyed the small unknown existence some bands woefully aspire to be. You know the whole suffering for one’s art thing. Masochistic yes, but it’s a thing. But there was one damn problem, a foible in the plan christened Frances Quinlan. Damn her. If only she’d kept her lovely soundtracked mouth shut and her seductively warped vocals to her damn self we would have all been better off. But alas she didn’t and we’re not. We’re not because I for one can’t get enough of her rustic rock delivery, which make her beautiful pained lyrics all the more so. And, if we’re honest with ourselves it was very specifically the track Tibetan Pop Stars. It was this song, with it’s acrimonious lyrics and paranormal voiced passion. It undone us. You fuckers. I fell in love with an off kilter and highly sentimental ode to heartbreak and enmity. And so yes, Hop Along’s release Get Disowned is a no-brainer for an apt Throwback Thursday nod, and may I suggest you replay all damn day? Thanks Frances. Psst! Futurekids always keep things interesting and fresh picked. I also lovingly appreciate the chill vibe the band emit through low-key sound miracles and surprisingly sentimental ditties. Case in point, the premiere of White Girl In A Wu Tang Shirt offers the quaint and lovey dovey. This track smolders like the embers of a nostalgic campfire ricocheting inside the synapses of fond memory. And although my assertions fall infinitely short of adequate fluffery you’ll appreciate the point.

The Weeknd gets fans (haters too) all in a tizzy. His second (official) album Beauty Behind The Madness (via Republic Records) drops today!
 
You can stream it over at HYPETRAK. The BBTM release is a biggie! Why? Well, it’s 14-tracks heavy on why we love Mr. Abel Tesfaye in the first place… the music man, the music! Although the haunting sadistically and beauteous voice is familiar we’re treated to hear new directions in sound, scope and the myriad palette of colors coming together is such fine form. This particular body of work stretches, arcs and shifts from the unconventional to a proscribed formula based on, well… unconventionality. Case in point, the track Dark Times (feat. Ed Sheeran) is an unforeseen sticky sweet and euphoric absinthe pill. Just as the proceeding track Prisoner, a tryst coupling Lana Del Rey‘s prettily bruised vocals with the sinful amber of yours truly. It’s a slight of hand; a mere candy drop coated with incense smoke and shared body heat.

All in all, the album stands on it’s on and is a pretty solid display of The Weeknd’s unfolding brilliance. Personally, I think this is his best release to date. The Beauty Behind The Madness closes with the track Angel and it intones… I hope you find somebody to love, find somebody, find somebody … well,  I think my ears already have. Peace.

Computer Magic drops the new single Be Fair and it bristles and shimmers like only Computer Magic can. Claudius Mittendorfer handled production duties and my ear, well they handled the chillin’ like a villain duties.
