Shamz Le Roc is an artist you probably haven’t heard about, until now. But that’s gonna change. Why? Well for starters she’s a force of hyper-kinetic energy and that energy has taken sound shape into her debut Incipio EP release.
 
And although it is a small plateful of gourmet sonic bytes it serves to whet one’s appetite for much more. My favorite track MJ’s Lady In My Life sampled beauty Shook its an easy sell. The Incipio EP contains five tracks in all and each one shines and glitters displaying a wide range of influences. Unknown Mortal Orchestra opens up bold, vulnerable and unapologetic with the lead track from their newly minted Multi-Love release. Triads aren’t just a badass Japanese gang it is also an exploration of what it is and how it is to share loves in the company and lifeship of three.

Ruban Nielson isn’t all smiles about it either, and you can hear the pitch and yaw of a man’s life tested and tried as he comes to terms with polyamory. The songs unfolds in plaintive keys, then Mr. Nielson vularable voice wades in until it is chest deep in it. A flurry of percussion shares the load and then the chorus reaffirms what you thought your heard:

“Multi-love got me on my knee / We were one then become three / Mama, what have you done to poor me / Now I’m half-crazy.”

It is heady stuff surely. Thought provoking and endlessly interesting. But not a novel thing like a sideshow curiosity, but instead an alternate take and exploration into, well, multi-love. In the end, perhaps some loves cannot be contained within the dynamics of the twosome tradition, but instead need to space and the expanse of what three can be. Peace.

A group love never sounded so darn good.

If all music tells a story, then Royal Teeth’s joyous, inspired songs spin an exuberant tale of possibility, each note conveying the youthful excitement of venturing out into the great wide world. The songs on the band’s debut album, Glow (courtesy of Dangerbird Records), were penned around the idea of exploration and spirited adventures into the unknown, and its 12 tracks lay out a kaleidoscopic narrative of discovery.
 


 
The group came together in 2010 with Gary, Josh W, Poe, Josh H and Stevie, friends from all across Louisiana who’d gravitated to one another during their early days playing out in New Orleans. It was with the discovery of Nora, the last piece of the puzzle, that the band began to truly hone in on what would become their sound. The aim was to have fun, with no master plan for the music at the outset. As they began to experiment, it became clear that the synthesizers they’d been playing around with elevated their effusive indie pop songs and best conveyed the buoyancy and levity of being young and anxious for the world to open up for you.

“The album is really about finding yourself,” said Nora who, as the visual artist in the group, conveys that cheerful enthusiasm both through the music and the band’s striking artwork and graphics. Peace.
