It’s been a minute since we heard anything from the Manchester-based quartet MONEY. But, with this Dan W. Jacobs-directed/animated video for Bluebell Fields they got us right where they want us. Beseechingly entranced. This is an enchanting unspooled ribbon of tranquility. The band’s soon to be released Bella Union is definitely something I’ll be looking forward to, and of course I will keep you posted. Peace. luke rathborne // last forgiven
The song Last Forgiven by Luke Rathborne is a well-crafted structure of intricate melody and moody lyric. After several listens it left me with a gnawing appetite to investigate further in Mr. Rathborne’s recorded origins. I unearthed his I Can Be One (2012) video and checked out his beautiful mundane Dog Years EP (2011), which only whets my curiosity even further. His forthcoming SOFT LP is scheduled for July 2nd release via Dilettante. Peace. Continue reading “luke rathborne // last forgiven”
cool ghouls // natural life

The band Cool Ghouls hail from San Francisco, CA and even though I’m not sure what it means in terms of their ability to rock out, I can tell you this, they’re cool beans! Listen and be impressed as band members Pat Thomas, Ryan Wong, Pat McDonald, and Alex Fleshman make their own brand of Beach Boys-esque meets rockabilly folkish rock and funnel it through a futuristic shaggy-haired aesthetic. The C to the G dropped their beer-stained official self-named debut LP Cool Ghouls recently (April 23rd) and I highly recommend it on vinyl, which you can cop via Empty Cellar Records. Also, you can get a three-song preview of the songs Ballin’, Things I Seen and Natural Life by visiting Bandcamp. Peace. Continue reading “cool ghouls // natural life”
shout of louds // walking in your footsteps + lissvik remix + north american tour
The Stockholm, Sweden band of five, Shout Out Louds, kick off their North American Tour in support of their enthusiastically received new album Optica. And, as an especial treat the band, along with Merge Records, tapped Prins Thomas Diskomiks to reassemble their loop-to-loop and very dreamy single Illusions. It’s a match made in remix heaven. Make your 2013 a memorable one and catch the band out on tour this summer, and please remember to give ’em my best. Peace. hands // brave motion + official video
The official Johnny Woods-directed/animated video for Brave Motion from Hands, is a full-blown color smeared action movie montage (by the way, love the care crashing in the helicopter). The song hails from the debut LP Synesthesia out now courtesy of Kill Rock Stars Records. Is it me or does the guitar on this song echo that of Jonny Greenwood’s work on Radiohead’s Weird Fishes Arpeggi? Peace. Continue reading “hands // brave motion + official video”
sibille attar // julian i want to be a dancer
At times the unorthodox approach can yield unusually tantalizing results. Sibille Attar is an apt example of the quirky and offbeat set to music, but what music it is! The Stockholm-based musical roustabout chants her brand of sonic voodoo with the voice of a classically trained chanteuse (seemingly so). Her music is alive with a vibrancy I’m growing more and more partial to with every listen. Julian I Want To Be A Dancer is crisp as a new dew strewn day, and as bouncy as a bumble bee, fat and flying flower head to flower head. Check it out. Peace. say lou lou // fool of me (ft. chet faker)

Allow me to introduce your ears to the the Australian/Swedish twins (Miranda and Elektra Kilbey) duo Say Lou Lou. Recently the ladies released their Julian EP single: a-side Julian & the b-side Fool Of Me Ft. Chet Faker via their newly minted label à Deux.
While the former track Julian is good enough, it is the b-side track Fool Of Me Ft. Chet Faker which demands your attention. Fool Of Me is Absinthe garnished with a muddled heart, and served with the shaky hand of an unkind fate. The instrumentation is misleading too, while managing to be both bouyant and somber conjointly, with scant striations of ambient noise like a faulty pulse heralding love’s end. This song is clearly Morse Code shedding it’s S.O.S. within trails of tear stain. And then there’s Chet Faker threading his gaunt vocals with masculine discontent, and reckless honesty, “I’ve been told, I am cold, been known to sting. Forgive me I have sinned. See the eyes burn too, I’m a brute shooting from the hip straight into your heart…it’s ok they’re be plenty more.” What a fils de bast!
The rumor mill is working overtime, projecting an LP from Say Lou Lou sometime this summer. My finger bones are crossed, are yours? Also, I’ve included last year’s video for the track Maybe You from their EP courtesy of Kitsuné Records. Peace. Continue reading “say lou lou // fool of me (ft. chet faker)”
amateur best // pleased
One-man band Amateur Best (Joe Flory) does it all. Mr. Flory writes, produces and plays all the instruments, and he also handles the details of the visual artwork surrounding his musical projects. I like the DIY approach, and in the case of Amateur Best and the song Pleased the results are quite agreeable to my eardrums. The Amateur Best debut LP No Thrills is out now via Double Denim Records. Peace. Continue reading “amateur best // pleased”
equateur // luv express
French duo Equateur (Romain Nouhi & Charles Rocher) released their Aquila EP earlier this year, and so far I am pleased as punch with this new band of electronic music makers. You can check out the video for the title track Aquila after the jump, and if you like head over to iTunes and get you some music. Peace. Continue reading “equateur // luv express”
solar bears // supermigration (our sunday best)

Dublin, Ireland space-pop maestros Solar Bears (John Kowalski and Rian Trench)in my opinion don’t do anything less than grandiose, and their latest LP Supermigration is all encompassing space odyssey to say the least. Each track is a furtherance of mankind reaching to the stars, up past the Kármán line dividing Earth’s atmosphere from outer space. After the jump give it a listen and suit up for a journey into inner-space. You can cop Supermigration via Planet Mu Records. Peace.
