bonzai | royah ep

Bonzai is fresh as tomorrows sunrise, now that’s fresh. The beats are chaotic yet hip hoppity legit. The Royah EP is the truth and it satisfies your constant need for the good and the fresh. So, put this one in your basket with the fresh cut flowers because to my ears Bonzai smells undeniably good. My fav track is the last track Noise. Talk about saving the best for last. Peace. lapalux | cuts vol. 1

When conversation turns to the best dj/producers working today at some point early on the name Lapalux will emerge. Stuart Howard’s style is unequivocal, and sublime in a way that almost comes across as effortless. His latest drop is Cuts Vol. 1 is an exploration into Hip Hop inspired beats with the hybrid touch indicative of the Lapalux sound. My favorite track is the last song, Thru U and is the perfect ending and beginning to the next installment of this musically evocative series. I also threw in the official Puzzle (feat. Andreya Triana) video from Lapalux’s superbad album Lustmore. Peace.

wild nothing | to know you | tv queen

The new material by Wild Nothing is a little bit different this time around and a whole lot interestingly beautiful. Jack Tatum has tickered with the formula (if there ever really was one in the first place) and if the tracks To Know You and TV Queen are any indication then I am can’t wait to here the other 9 tracks on his Life of Pause album which drops February 19th courtesy of Captured Tracks. Peace. Continue reading “wild nothing | to know you | tv queen”

captain america: civil war

Marvel films keep getting better and the new trailer for Captain America: Civil War is the kind of tease fans both love and hate. We love it Because it more than sufficiently whets our collective appetites for what will be. But the flip side of the coin is the waiting game. Come on May can you like be here tomorrow? I am also loving how many of the plot lines are weaving into a nice tapestry. The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Antman both left us with a delicious hint of more to come. And this one, well I can’t wait to see and experience it at a theater near me soon. Isn’t May right after Christmas. I wish. Peace.

nadine khouri | you got a fire

London-based Nadine Khouri is stronger than you think. Her’s is a musical strength born out of vulnerability and a penchant for bearing her soul. Not for the sake of it, but to connect us to her beautiful truth, a painful past and her optimistic creativity. Her latest release, “You Got A Fire,” reads more like self-observation than anything else. Here, Nadine’s style is sparse, almost bare bones (reminiscent of her beautifully haunting song To Sleep). Nadine’s is a singing voice caught in the low-branches where a soul can reach it. This is song as asylum, and you’ll hang in a tangle, the last leaf fluttering upon her comforting wind. The single, You Got A Fire is out now courtesy of One Flash Records. Make sure to look for Nadine’s full album Lost Continents in 2016. Peace. kaptan | way out

Nashville, TN band Kaptan release more love into the world with their latest single Way Out. This one is as effervescent as it is prettily adorned with shimmery pop vibrancy. Personally it is my hope all of these singles are going to commune, frolic and amalgamate into a mighty fine album some time soon. But until then we’re all baited breath over this way. Peace. jojo abot | fyfya woto

Ghanaian shooting star Jojo Abot splices soul atoms with facets of a spirited Afro Funk, electronica and aspects of alt pop. Her’s is a sound as old as the revolutions of the sun. These songs are the needful pull of the moon whispering in your ears. Wisdom spun from the flesh and blood of a beauty as illuminating as the yawning and combined light of galaxy strewn stars. Yet, Ms. Abot simultaneously comes across fresh as morning dew with her fearless heart on her sleeve. I cannot stop listening and why should I? With music this good and magical, coming away not impressed and wanting more isn’t really an option. Check out the Fyfya Woto EP after the jump. Peace.
