one sure way to pique my musical interest is to lay down some sensuous femme vocals over a wickedly dangerous track. anneka is an accomplished vocalist/multi-instrumentalist and visual artist based in brighton, u.k. who isn’t afraid to try different approaches to further her craft. and, if you’ve followed this blog for some time then her name is a familiar one. and for good reason, she makes another appearance here with her song, “jaws of day” . the track was originally included as part of the electronic explorations compilation released mid-summer. however, it is available now as a single for immediate download too, how cool is that? after listening to this gem i am eagerly awaiting more music from anneka sooner rather than later. peace. the weeknd // wicked games
The Weeknd has been building tremendous hype for the past couple of years. So naturally there is a great deal of anticipation for his debut trilogy album. Unfortunately, the minus is his debut release contains material we’ve already heard on his previous mixtapes. The positive, is the songs are remastered for this release. Yeah,it’s a small thing. but the big plus is the addition of three new songs, “Twenty Eight”, “Valerie” and “Till Dawn (Here Comes The Sun)”. You can cop the trilogy via itunes. peace. japanese popstars // matter of time (ft. green velvet)
you never quite know what you’re going to get with the japanese popstars, and maybe that’s a good thing. if you know anything about jp then you know they have a penchant for teaming up with a kaleidoscope of artists to further their impressive oeuvre. after the jump listen to, “matter of time” (ft. green velvet). peace. Continue reading “japanese popstars // matter of time (ft. green velvet)”
sub focus // tidal wave (ft. alpines)
sub focus (nick douwma) is an electronic dance music messiah (which just means he’s really good, no sacrilege intended)! after the jump you can watch (and listen) to his forthcoming single, “tidal wave” ft. alpines”. the new single hits the streets november 4th via ram records. and just in case you didn’t know those are the wonderful (soul-stirring) pipes of catherine pockson, who sings like an earth angel and just so happens to look like one too. peace. Continue reading “sub focus // tidal wave (ft. alpines)”
kid smpl // but i don’t
seattle-based producer kid smpl (b.k.a. j. butler) is all about creating docile chillwave meets electro r&b music, and with his forthcoming debut release ‘skylight’ via hush hush records, this one is sure to please. after the jump check out the ultra smooth, “but i don’t” and the good thing is you can cop it the day it drops on november 12th. peace. metz // headache
when a guitar driven band with a four piece drum dreams of a serious go at rock stardom they play pretty much whenever and wherever they can: dimly lit basements, skate shops and a whole lot of gritty bars and clubs are standard issue. and the end result may turn into what the canadian three-piece rockers metz have going on right now. metz marks a return to rock served up with heaping loads of distortion splattered all over walls, ceilings and eardrums wherever rock junkies gather to get their beer fueled party on. check out the song, “headache” complete with everything a rock track should be. peace. the band’s self-titled album dropped this month via sub pop records. peace. Continue reading “metz // headache”
black marble // a great design &
chris stewart and ty kube joined forces as the electro-goth duo black marble. and if you enjoy dark moody music reminiscent of the cure, new order and even depeche mode them these are the guys your ears may want to get familiar with. after the jump check out two songs, “a great design” and “a different arrangement”, the latter of the two has a beat similar to the cure’s “close to you” (my opinion). the band black marble released their latest lp ‘a different arrangement’ on october 9th via hardly art records. also, if this band is your cup of tea, then check out their ‘weight against the door’ ep. both are available on itunes and wherever beautiful, albeit haunting pre-recorded melancholy is sold. peace. Continue reading “black marble // a great design &”
