the hood internet   //  doin it good  +  kanye west  + daft punk + free download

Summer 2013 pretty much belongs to Daft Punk and the release of their much lauded Random Access Memories LP. Point and set. Yet, there is another artist who’ll also be remembered in the year of our lord MMXIII. Enter Mr. Kanye West and his groundbreaking Yeezus LP. And as big as the former two acts are (they’re so not acting) there is two unsung heroes of the summer (and spring, autumn and winter too).

The Chicago-based dj/producer duo known worldwide as The Hood Internet. These guys are the precious golden thread, who often conjoin the urban with the suburban, taking the grit and grime and the globally inaccessible then carefully stitching them together like Siamese dreams. But on a higher plateau The Hood Internet perform a greater service, as global ambassadors: bridging cultures and gettin’ the party started. They rock the rural and roll the sublime, blending them into a potent tonic poured over sub-zero and multifaceted crushed ice. It’s a hard concept to understand without experiencing it firsthand or in this case firstear.

If you missed it then you’re in for a treat, as you listen to the superlative mash-up. The “Doin It Good,” remix takes the Hip-Hop fun of Kanye’s Good Life and marries it to the effortless euphoria of Daft Punk’s Doin’ It Right. This is an “all day everyday” anthem. Also, peep The Hood Internet’s The Mixtape Volume Seven. It is jammed packed with goodies and hoodies. Peace. hey champ // celebrate

So fresh the pastel paint is still oh so very wet!

Chance meetings can change the course of everything. In 2008 the duo Hey Champ (Saam Hagshenas & Jonathan Marks) caught the ears of Lupe Fiasco and nothing has been the same ever since. Fast forward. The boys from just outside Rockford, Illinois are currently hard at work fashioning new material for mass consumption (debut album perhaps?). But in the meantime and between time the band just released the track Celebrate to gyrate your hips to. Might I suggest getting your gyration on? Peace. Continue reading “hey champ // celebrate”

mister lies // dionysian

Coming to us at the speed of slow-motion sound, the vibrating outer-spheres of consciousness are transmitting Mister Lies as he rains upon our collective heads the most sensuous noise shower ever.

Winter is drawing to a close, and in my mind the sky is melting sunshine and dripping star-glow aplenty. Now, the time has come for renewal and re-generation and the track “Dionysian,” is the perfect aural representation of all things newborn and reborn. Chicago-based producer/artist Mister Lies (aka Nick Zanca) forges music which taps into something primal within all of us, and if you can’t get with it then perhaps you need some chill-time therapy. Peace. Continue reading “mister lies // dionysian”

videotape // static

Fellow Chicagoans AJ Cesena, Sophie Leigh, Ian McDuffie, Sarah Sterling, and Jenna Caravello are the band Videotape. And while their name may place an emphasis on the visual it is the band’s large pulsing rock/pop sound (and Sophie Leigh’s sexy vocals) that’ll win you over. The song, “Static” is the first single from the band’s forthcoming debut album This Is Disconnect which drops September 24th, 2012.  Continue reading “videotape // static”

lupe fiasco // bitch bad

Always love to hear new material from one of Chi-Towns finest Lupe Fiasco. You can always depend on Lupe to drop something conscious and thought provoking with an ill beat. “Bitch Bad” and the track “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free) for which I have the video, is no exception. Both above fare cuts are taken from Lupe’s forthcoming September 25th release Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album and of course you can cop this, as well as additional material from Lupe Fiasco on iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “lupe fiasco // bitch bad”
