cyril hahn | grace | palace slo mo edit

I’ve been a long-time fan of Cyril Hahn and his original version of Grace featuring Kotomi was airtight, but… But along comes the Grace (Palace Slo Mo Edit) and well, yes! The Palace edit sinks a bit deeper into an already tranquil and lost in the eddies track. I like it and I love it more than I like it. Am I making any sense? The original track is one of four featured on the Cyril Hahn’s Begin EP. Check it out after the jump. Peace. Continue reading “cyril hahn | grace | palace slo mo edit”

anushka | mansions

Brighton duo Anushka (Victoria Port and Max Wheeler) take music making to new and highly enjoyable directions. Their brand of music is a blend of soulful R&B/electro (think Erykah Badu with futuristic electeroid tendacies) music. To date I haven’t heard a wrong move by the duo. They are on my radar and I expect major success is just around the corner. Anushka’s debut album Broken Circuit is out now courtesy of Brownswood Recordings. Peace. ghostpoet // remix competition winners

A while back, multi-faceted UK artist Ghostpoet was approached for a remix competition in which fans would rework one (or more) of three singles from his recently released Some Say I So I Say Light LP courtesy of [PIAS] Recordings

The tracks:

1. Meltdown

2. Cold Win

3. Dial Tones

After much deliberation the winners were, Bastard Sugar’s  otherworldly version of Dial Tones, UK artist Thinnen’s dark and bass-loaded take on Cold Win, and the heavily percussive house remix of Meltdown by Londoner Joe Ashworth. All three of the tracks will be cut to their own dubplates by The Carvery, and can be streamed in full below. Peace. Continue reading “ghostpoet // remix competition winners”

orange creme // glass disco ep

orange creme // glass disco ep

This is the sound of after hours New York disco. It is familiar and haunting. Cosmic and analog. At times reminiscent of Lindstrom, and Todd Terje but with its own unique Brooklyn atmosphere.

On the first track: Night Train, the rhythm is gorgeous disco funk, with stabs of glittering synths – and a middle section that surprises with hazy, bubbling arpeggios that seem stolen from an italo soundtrack.

Sunset Drive is a more intense four-to-the-floor cut. The rubbery bass intertwining with waves of shimmering, repetitive synth lines over a deep, driving kick and detailed percussion. It’s a track that takes 1990’s house and re-imagines it as psychedelic deep disco.

It is available online for free download and in a limited edition cassette at record stores in NYC on Cassette Store Day, September 7th.
Details will be posted on our website. Thank you for your time and for listening. Peace. Continue reading “orange creme // glass disco ep”

mixhell // the way + video

Ooh La La. Minha banda favorita brasileiro!

Do you smell that? Musically aromatic (electromatic?) wouldn’t you say? It’s the latest video from Mixhell. The song is titled The Way and it is directed by Rudå Cabral. This is one of many from the band’s forthcoming LP Spaces, it drops June 11th courtesy of Last Gang Records. Love the retro electro feel of this one, sounds like the B52’s and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs had a lovechild and christened it Mixhell. Peace. Continue reading “mixhell // the way + video”

tesla boy // broken doll

This month Tesla Boy dropped their highly anticipated sophomore LP ‘The Universe Made Of Darkness’, and naturally we are both impressed and grateful. Get an earful of the single, “Broken Doll,” featuring the Red Velvet cake vocals of Tyson. This track sheds mega sparks via it’s nasty synths and sexy menacing bass line, and we can’t seem to get enough. You can get the 12-track album right now via iTunes. Peace. It’s a kaleidoscopic pill you swallow through your ear holes.

One sure thing you can count on when dropping the needle on any music by Capital Cities is it will remain fresh and crispy endlessly. This duo (Ryan Merchant
and Sebu Simonian) made impressive moves last year (loved their remake of The Purple Ones’ Nothing Compares 2 U), and in 2013 are slatted to drop their debut album In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery on June 11th. Continue reading “capital cities // safe and sound + video”
