the xx // sunset (jamie xx edit)

If I were a moth I would flutter fatally to this flame.

Make no mistake this is one of the smoothest remixes of a The xx song I’ve yet to hear. What Jamie xx (Jamie Smith) has done to “Sunset,” is so irresistibly forthright and sexy this one should come with an overdose disclaimer. I could listen to it endlessly. Right now outside of the U.S. it is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD via iTunes. Once again us poor Yankees must suffer another musical injustice. Peace. boombox // lost ya

When two groove as one everything just comes together.

Russ “the Captain” Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux together form the rock/bass/disco house project Boombox and so far these Alabamians have proven you can’t judge musical influences by geography. The track, “Lost Ya,” is different in all the right ways. Peace. Continue reading “boombox // lost ya”

nima khak // searching all around (for you)

When in outer space do as they do and rocket.

Nima Khak is a resident of Sweden but after listening to his productions  you’ll swear up and down he’s an interstellar time traveler. Listen to Nima Khak’s ‘Searching All Around (For You)‘ release via 1:53.2 Records, and it is all one needs to get the night headed in the right direction. The release also features the tracks, “Bitter Sweet” and unconventional “A Tribe Called Quest“. In this posting I’ve also included a September 2012 mix session featuring not only Nima Khak but  also fellow DJ alum Bryan Chapman on the Future Underground Show. Peace. sepehr // when she’s around

Music is a drug.

Yes, we’re letting the music take you there tonight in more ways than one. I’ve reached back in the dust-pin and wiped off this gem. But don’t worry those nasty beats never go out of style. check out DJ/Producer Sephr and the space oddity track, “When She’s Around“. I’m also dropping Sephr’s latest Gulshick Radio mix for your listening pleasure. Peace. Continue reading “sepehr // when she’s around”

local natives // heavy feet

“What you said I wrote it down, I wont say, I won’t speak the same…”

SoCal-band Local Natives make good music, just check out their critically acclaimed Gorilla Manor (2010) for verification. Recently, the band released the first single “Heavy Feet,” taken from the forthcoming album release ‘Hummingbird‘ set to drop January 29th via Frenchkiss Records. The pre-order is available through iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “local natives // heavy feet”

haerts // wings

With such a heavenly sound its little wonder this band has chosen a cloud for their cover art.

No the band name is not a misprint, but the NYC-based project is worthy of a double-take, or should I say double-listen? Mind me not, but do check out their latest release “Wings“. The track provokes one (or at least me) to sky-gaze and makes me feel all grandiose and gossamer inside. Again, don’t mind me, but do find enjoyment in the music and video. Continue reading “haerts // wings”

toro y moi // say that (official video)

A compositional sugar-rush of aural delight.

At this point in Toro Y Moi‘s music career he needs little promotion, basically the product sells itself. Regardless of popularity check out the latest video for the song “Say That“. This is the second single reveal from the forthcoming album ‘Anything In Return‘ via Carpark Records set to drop January 22nd. Previously, the single “So Many Details,” was released and you can watch that video here. Peace. Continue reading “toro y moi // say that (official video)”

saintseneca // mallwalker

Music so good if you threw it up into the air it’ll rain down upon you like sunshine.

Columbus, Ohioans and band Saintseneca do amazing things with music. In very capable hands, and heart, the trio’s music is blown like glass into fragile odes of sheer beauty. And although it’s been a while since we heard any news on the horizon in regards to a new full-length November saw the release of the Saintseneca EP which, “Only The Young Die Good,” is taken. Here’s hoping there is a new album in the works for 2013. Until then let me share another new track titled, “Mallwalker“. This is a live session recording with Zac Little doing what he does best; call-fire down from the mountain with his amazing soul-stirring voice. Also, by visiting the band’s Bandcamp page there’s a free download just waiting for ya’. Peace. Continue reading “saintseneca // mallwalker”

dutch uncles // fester

Music so good brain-freeze is a common side effect of listeners the world over.

Five-piece band Dutch Uncles releases a new video for their song “Fester“. And it’s a bright coloured ice-festering affair, which attends nicely to herald the band’s forthcoming album ‘Out Of Touch In The Wild‘ via Memphis Industries. The LP is scheduled to drop January 14th, you can pre-order it now, and also get an instant download of the “Fester” track. Cool beans. Peace. Continue reading “dutch uncles // fester”

beak // mono / kenn

The fizz in your soda-pop just got a brand new rhythm section.

Here is a great release from Invada Record’s three-piece band BEAK. The official drop date was December 10th. But don’t let that worry you, because the single, “Mono/Kenn,” has an unlimited expiration date and unstoppable aural appeal. Also, just so you know (for all those vinyl collectors) there is a limited run vinyl pressing of 300 7″ red vinyl which is available exclusively here. This is experimental, spontaneous, improv and totally likeable indie music at it’s finest hour. Peace. Continue reading “beak // mono / kenn”
