denai moore // flaws

This is humanity and humility aplenty conjoined into beautiful soulful song.

It is often said the gift of music is an offering which keeps on giving. And much like the old adage, “You never cross the same river twice,” well, that too can easily be applied to a beautiful and cherished song. I want to first extend a heartfelt thanks to my new friend Teddi for introducing Mitten Mouth Music to Denai Moore. Ms. Moore sings her  wonderful and oh-so-touching song, “Flaws” taken from her ‘Hardliving’ release with an abundance of ardor and tenderness . Make no mistake his is a song you’ll want to put on repeat and shadow dance with well into the late night hours. Plus, it’s a  FREE DOWNLOAD. Peace.

maglia rosa group // nighthawks ep

Whilst trailing a fiery train of shimmery vocals these songs caress your ears like a fervid lover.

earlier this year in april i had the pleasure to listen to, enjoy and review the song, “Penelope” from the sonically sophisticated u.k. band Maglia Rosa Group. well, it appears lightnings strikes yet again. the band whose lead vocalist Daisy Lawrence, sounds like a meteor shower of crimson warmth. her voice provides a solid foundation for this indie pop band works magic. yet, instead of falling stars this band’s star is steadily rising as it streaks across the musical skysphere with their highly recommended debut ‘Nighthawks EP’. stand out songs are the lead tracks, “Nighthawks” for which i have posted an accompanying video and “Fallen Daughter” and “Blood Orange” respectively. peace. holy balm // take it

I’ll have another shot of the iced-funk groove with the staccato bass garnish.

For the last few years (as far as I know) the music seeping through from down under is taking me higher and higher. Furthering that trend (or plain and simple truth) is the ethereal funk-laden trio Holy Balm. listening to their outlandishly sick track “Take It,” is tantamount to overdosing on a pound of organic space dust. No doubt band members Emma Ram, Jonathan Hochman and Anna John got this music thing all figured out. Check out the bands recent album It’s Youvia Not Not Fun Records. Peace. Continue reading “holy balm // take it”

ducktails // flower lane

The euphoric ecstasy of soft petaled sonic byproducts.

Ducktails is the once solo-project of one Matt Mondanile (also a member of Real Estate). at any rate the uno has now become a full-fledged 5-piece band. over the summer they released their forth album ‘The Flower Lane’ via Domino Records. recorded and mixed over the summer of 2012 with Al Carlson (Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never) the ten-track album is filled with mellow soaked tracks dripping with the essence of summer time bliss. here, take a listen to “Flower Lane” and my fav “Letter of Intent”. peace. black sabbath // planet caravan (poolside re-work )

It’s like taking a blow to the cerebral cortex with the most beautifully wicked sonic fist.

yeah “that” Black Sabbath. here it gets a re-work by those la-based psychedelic disco-disciples Poolside and the ensuing results are nothing short of interstellar. the Black Sabbath classic, “Planet Caravan” is just stunning, that’s all i’ll say. the track is available on Poolside’s ‘Season Change Mixtape‘ also cop the duo’s debut album ‘Pacific Standard Time’ while you’re at it. peace. Continue reading “black sabbath // planet caravan (poolside re-work )”

dead times // feel

Don’t let the name of this duo fool you, this one has a pulse and legs upon which to sprint full-tilt towards your ears with arms wide open.

although the name of this la-based duo maintain a slightly morbid namesake their music is anything but. to the contrary, the music here is lively has anyone could hope for with its mixing and splicing of pop bubbly and r&b rhythms (can you say genre defying?). Dead Times presents a winner with their latest track, “Feel” and ii is the first release since the duo’s self-titled 7-track album earlier this year. and like the lyric in this proclaim… “yeah my best is yet to come”. peace. Continue reading “dead times // feel”

goodtime // can’t get away (jape remix)

It shifts and glows serpentine like through the outer edges of your groove theory.

Goodtime (aka John Cowhie) makes atmospheric electronic music and it pulses through your head gear fully armed and lethally seductive. the track, “Can’t Get Away” gets the Jape Remix and now it’s just deadlier on the eardrums. the original song is taken from The Colours Of Darkness LP (2011). peace. Continue reading “goodtime // can’t get away (jape remix)”

widowspeak // ballad of the golden hour

Soughing through the ventricles of your heart.

Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas = Widowspeak. and how this two-person act gets such a large all-consuming sound of a duo project is beyond me. their song, “Ballad of the Golden Hour” is gorgeous beyond and it is the first release from the forthcoming album ‘Almanac‘ to be released january the 22nd 2013. I think Ms. Hamilton’s voice could melt the Hope diamond. peace. Continue reading “widowspeak // ballad of the golden hour”
