cold specks // new york sessions
on a recent trip to nyc cold specks gave fans a few reasons to get all excited about. check out al spx’s semi-impromptu session delivering “elephant head” at harlem’s historic paris blues bar. then during her la blogotheque session she showcases her soulful blues-tinged pipes by unleashing, the aforementioned “elephant head” then adding “heavy hands” and “blank maps” as stirring chasers. you can also check out cold specks on npr’s world cafe for additional, then check out the band’s north american tour schedule for dates near you. you can get the previous songs and others on cold speck’s album ‘i predict a graceful expulsion‘ via arts & crafts on itunes. peace. lavender diamond // incorruptible heart (album release september 25th) + everybody’s heart’s breaking now (official video)
the sophomore album release, incorruptible heart by the la-based lavender diamond is a collection of songs reminiscent of a sweet-smelling bouquet of wildflowers. the songs are ethereal and filled with a warm earthiness which lends itself to the autumn season, not so far of a departure from the groups beginnings in the bird songs of the bauharoque, the punk operetta inspired by the work of american painter/architect paul laffoley.
the albums opens with the delicate song, “everybody’s heart’s breaking now,” and becky stark‘s lithe soprano drains all the color from your heart. but, it is an apt song to set the tone for this tranquil slow-burn of an album. the next song, “dragonfly” speaks of birth as the beginning of death (poetic existentialism?), but it is also a wake-up call to live the life you’re given to the fullest. the album proceeds, or perhaps blooms into its fullness over and over again, songs fall petal by petal through a soft cacophony of wistful tomes, 12-songs and a few surprises. stand outs include, “i don’t recall,” “teach me how to waken” and “forgive“.
i’m certain you’ll discover your very own favorites too. incorruptible heart isn’t so much an album about discovery as it is the reflection of one’s past. a past marked by not only heartbreak, but lessons learned and experienced joys. lavender diamond have surely come into their own as a band, filled with maturity and a willingness to bare it all unflinchingly. you can pre-order incorruptible heart in various formats via www.lavenderdiamond.net.
the album drops september 25th. peace. Continue reading “lavender diamond // incorruptible heart (album release september 25th) + everybody’s heart’s breaking now (official video)”
lavender diamond // everybody’s heart’s breaking now (our sunday best)
la-based band lavender diamond creates the kind of songs which are perfect for anytime you want to chill out and de-stress after lords knows what. lead singer becky stark is in solid possession of such a lethally seductive soprano it compels one’s ears to filter out (even screaming babies and ambulance sirens) all other earthly sounds. the band is set to release their sophomore album incorruptible heart on september 25th via paracadute records.
roosevelt // sea
newbie wonder kid roosevelt is making a name for himself with his bristling and euphoria inducing brand of electro-pop with his current single, “sea”. he is currently signed to indie label greco-roman (joe goddard of hot chip) and is playing dated with totally enormous extinct dinosuars. no release date for an debut ep or album but i’ll keep you posted. peace. saucy monky // listening to morrissey
what is your ideal of heaven? for many heaven can be pretty matter of fact: a bowl of macaroni of cheese for example. yet, for others it can be more abstract, less specific but still it looms there half-way between one’s subconscious and consciousness. my heaven (one of them), hey who says you gotta’ have just one idea of heaven? anyway, heaven for me involves music and the la-based band saucy monky have this little gem of a song, “listening to morrissey”. the song weaves tranquil melody with intelligent lyricism; two essential combinations which encourage a listener to click repeat over and over. for more, and i highly suggest you check out more, visit the band’s soundcloud, and while you at it watch their latest video for the song, “awkward” it’ll make you … feel things. peace. ellie goulding // anything could happen (submerse remix)
for me the adoration of ms. ellie goulding started with her delicate voice as it sung earlier, and memorable tunes such as, “under the sheets” and the acoustic laden ode “wish i stayed”. but more recently, with her remake of the weeknd’s “high for this” i was smitten all over again. so it is with great anticipation i await the release of her forthcoming sophomore album ‘halcyon’. the album drops october 8th but you can pre-order it via itunes. peace. charli xcx // so far away (princess video remix)
certain aspects of the new charli xcx video should come with a psychedelic warning sticker, you know the kind of stickers that stick to audible objects. don’t pay me any attention, except when i say, “so far away” is all kinds of electric mellow space dust sweet, that parts true. enjoy the video. peace.
