dr. dre ft. snoop dog // hold up (minnesota vip remix)

Christian Bauhofer is dj/producer Minnesota. While the namesake immediately brings to mind the land of 10,000 lakes, it should be noted that this young Jedi of the hype track has, or so it seems, 10,000 beats running through his head at any given time. Listen to the majesty of his astounding take on the classic “Hold Up” by the groundbreaking Dr. Dre Ft. Snoop Dog. But, this re-imagining of Dre’s is more than just dope, it also showcases Minnesota’s vicious acumen for style and creativity on the wheels. This is one young man who isn’t afraid of a challenge and he delivers marvelously. This is musical madness elevated far out into the farthest reaches of the Milky Way. After the jump, check out DJ Minnesota’s phenomenal track, “Push It,” it is equally affected with a chronic sickness. Peace. Continue reading “dr. dre ft. snoop dog // hold up (minnesota vip remix)”

The Avalanches hail from Melbourne, Australia and they have a famous reputation for constructing unique and eclectic music from sampling. múm // early birds

It isn’t fair nor it is an easy task to try to put the band Múm into any one category, so I won’t. Especially, when they are so much more than just another Icelandic pop band. In terms of their position in the wide and ever evolving constellation of music these folk hold a singular place in my heart. Not many bands are so expansive, in that Múm will touch your heart and your head simultaneously. On June 1st the band released a compilation of material ranging from 1998-2000 (roughly), and it is beyond wonderful. I have two treats for you after the jump. One is a new video for “Hvernig Á Að Særa Vini Sína” (How to Hurt Your Friends) directed by Máni M. Sigfússon. Secondly, I have a new (downloadable) single entitled 0,000Orð. The latter track is all kinds of dreamy accoutrement, the kind which makes perfect accompaniment to a (sought after) tranquil existence. Peace. Continue reading “múm // early birds”

bear hands // songs from utopia vol. 1

NYC is known for (among other things) excellent bands. And bands don’t come any more excellent than Brooklyn’s Bear Hands. Recently the band released another round of melodic noise by way of their Songs From Utopia EP. The band describes the release as such, “Songs From Utopia Vol. One is a collection of quasi-political “thought pieces” that serve as a manifestation of overwhelming white guilt and a pinko elitist liberal arts education. Released worldwide on July 4th, 2012 it is also a birthday present for America.”

You can download it for free, as in no charge, from www.bearhandsband.com. A bit of advice though, when you click on the link the first thing you’ll see is bearded lead singer Dylan Rau sitting on a couch, now scroll down. See the sea green tool bar thingy? Click on the first icon/button with the X on it. Let the downloading begin. You’re welcome. Peace. Continue reading “bear hands // songs from utopia vol. 1”

young man // fate

The sophomore release from Young Man, Vol. 1, is a seemingly effortless body of work. It is beautiful and dripping with the tranquil and the utterly melodic. As the 23-year-old Brooklyn singer/guitarist/songwriter Colin Caulfield readily demonstrates his prowess with well crafted and melodic songs. Listen and watch his video for the song, “Fate” and immerse yourself ear deep within its lush beauty. Vol. 1 is an album you’ll want to listen to more and more, so why don’t you give Young Man a try. In closing, I am also recommending Colin Caulfield’s Ideas Of Distance EP. Yes, it’s only 3 songs, but they’re much more here than 3 songs. Peace.
