moe’s implosion // mastodonte

Moe’s Implosion has been (unfortunately) an unknown band of sorts on this side of the Atlantic. And really that’s too bad, because these guys are pretty amazing. Don’t take my word for it, check out the band’s video for the song, “Mastodonte“. This track spits coal-fired rock and leaves you thoroughly wrung out and wanting more. The guys from Montijo, Portugal are the real deal, blending elements of skate punk with gorgeously complicated riffs akin to math rock. Check out the bands 2011 LP Light Pollution, from which “Mastodonte” is taken. Peace. Continue reading “moe’s implosion // mastodonte”

digits // death and desire

Are you in need of a little something chill to listen to after the sun goes down? Toronto transplant, and current Berlin resident, Digits (Alt Altman) creates a smoky and tender blend of Electro/R&B music that’ll melt your heart. Listen to the track, “So Cold” and you’ll soon understand why I am so enamored. This song is only one of twelve on the highly seductive, and acclaimed Death And Desire release. If ever you needed a body of music to set “the mood” this is it. You can get it as a FREE DOWNLOAD, as well as Digits latest release Lost Dream at digitsmusic.com. How’s that for instant gratification? And although you don’t have to, throw him a few dollars, consider it a down payment for the future services of the perfect musical wing man. Peace. fur coat // mind over matter

“Mind Over Matter is a way of thinking that we have,” says Muñoz. “We believe if you think what you want and you visualize it you can get it, and with the power of mind you can overcome any obstacle.”
Sounds like a sound philosophy to me. The Venezuelan DJ/Producer duo Fur Coat will release their debut Mind Over Matter LP in September. On which you can expect more of what the South American mixologists are renowned for; sick beats and totally danceable tracks. Sources say the album will combine new production, as well as songs from their two previous EPs. Looks like the two tracks after the jump didn’t make it onto the album. But that just means there will be more new stuff to look forward to, and chances are they’ll blow your mind. Peace. Continue reading “fur coat // mind over matter”

diplo // barely standing (ft. datsik & sabi)

One thing for certain Philadelphia’s native son Diplo serves up some of the nastiest beats in musicdom. Straight up no frontin’. Case in point, the track, “Barely Standing,” featuring Datsik and Sabi is like a siren call to the dance floor. Get loose with this one and let the music move you! You got cop this one and five more freshily funkily Diplo tracks on the bodacious Express Yourself EP available on iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “diplo // barely standing (ft. datsik & sabi)”

big scary // falling away (official video)

Joanna Syme and Tom Iansek and Big Scary. I agree, an odd name for a duo putting out music that is anything but scary. The song is called, “Falling Away,” and it is taken from BS’s debut LP Vacation. The video was directed by renowned director Daniel Cummings of Picture Machine Productions (think Bon Iver videos).

“The song itself is about growing up – it’s about being told life’s lessons as opposed to learning them for yourself,” says Big Scary’s Tom Iansek. “But the video is a journey into the mind of an older man struggling with dementia – trying to recapture a younger version of himself. I love the dichotomy between these two angles.”

Big Scary is another shining example of the great music being produced Down Under. I’m thinking, get ready for an Aussie invasion. Peace. Continue reading “big scary // falling away (official video)”

twin trip // man on the moon

Twin Trip
is the project of multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and vocalist Felix Penny. Keyboard/guitarist Gigie Hall and bassist Eric Olsen complete the trio. The band’s self-titled debut album dropped in April. The song, “Man On The Moon,” is all kinds of nice. It reminds me a lot of Radiohead “Subterranean Homesick Alien”. But what do I know? Hey, don’t answer that. Peace. Continue reading “twin trip // man on the moon”
