The skinny is Saksatchewan began as the project of Orlando, Florida based multi-instrumentalist Chandler Strang. Later on Gery, Dave & Austin joined the fray. Long story (or at least convoluted) short they’ve named themselves after a Canadian province. The makers of a beautifully unique blend of dream-pop have released their debut LP Occasion via Father / Daughter Records. Last month (April) the perennially melancholy Pop anti-stars No Joy released their No Pleasure LP. And now there’s a video for the track Hare Tarot Lies, and it’s a rainbow swirl delivered in a constant drug-laden stream on consciousness. The music sound like a hybrid channeling Ian Curtis and the Cocteau Twins, and I like that a lot. This one will leave wanting to check into rehab. Peace. There is a lot of good music coming out of the U.K. and the South Coast band New Desert Blues is a raising the bar even further. There latest song, Adam is all kinds of rough and ready with just the right amount of folkish/rock twang.
In regards to the video, director Jack Bowden explains, “Adam, is act one of a two act music video I shot for New Desert Blues. We flew out to the desert with a script, some actors and some camera equipment. This is what we flew back with. Act two, Zachary will be released soon.”

According to their label Deep Ellum Records “BLKKATHY is a Brooklyn-based duo, sometimes trio, of ladies who like to sing sad songs over very heavy bass beats...” And after listening to their songs the description is mostly true, aside from the fact that I just feel a strong compulsion to tongue kiss my speakers right now whilst Dem Bones waft seductively around my head space. Although the songs dropped last year, the girls are still gathering momentum, which will hopefully compel them towards a debut release. No word on an official release as of yet, but let’s raise a glass and toast to hope eternal.
