The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) drops 2 new songs, both from his forthcoming sophomore album Kissland. Both tracks follow his signature drug-infused-party noir misogyny. It’s all good. Check out the title track Kissland and John Carpenter . Let me know what you think. Peace. Continue reading “the weeknd // kissland”
skream // disco set for judie + free download
If you know your dubstep then the name Ollie ‘Skream’ Jones is a familiar one. However, as of late he’s in the midst of his own musical renaissance. His latest mix, Disco Set For Judie, finds Skream revisiting the Golden era of disco with all it’s vibrant groove and time tested chillsticity. But of course Skream adds his signature flavor to the mix, no surprise there, right? Also, as an added benefit this Neo Disco compilation is a FREE DOWNLOAD! Peace. coma cinema | satan made a mansion
Mat Cothran was raised in the blasted landscape of Spartanburg, SC. And no matter how disparaging such an existence was, (credit is due) for it is responsible for molding Mr. Cothran into the artist he is today. Listen to Satan Made A Mansion and what sounds like the mundane and doldrums rife musings, is actually love songs dressed in mendicant black. What beautiful duplicity is this? The track is taken from the forthcoming LP Posthumous Release out June 11th courtesy of Fork And Spoon Records (12-inch vinyl and compact disc) and Orchid Tapes (cassette). Peace. nadine carina // where i love ep

If you’re pining for a rich musical medium in which you can plant dreams and watch me grow, well Nadine Carina is fertile ground for such endeavors. The Where I Love EP sounds like 50’s girl pop amidst Italian ice shavings and a healthy squirt of simple syrup. Yes, these songs are both cool and sweet. The Where I Love EP is available via Bandcamp. Peace. Continue reading “nadine carina // where i love ep”

Mike Edge and Amber Quintero formed Boardwalk just about a year ago in Los Angeles, Calif. Their debut self-titled album will be released this year on Stones Throw Records, but for now check out their single I’m To Blame. It’s dreamy, like a dream. Peace. the senators // this old war
If you haven’t got The Senators on your bucolic folk music radar then I implore you to check out their debut album Harsher than Whiskey/Sweeter than Wine. The Senators are definitely in league with several of my favorites bands occupying the folk genre, i.e. Blind Pilot, Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and Horsefeathers (just to name a few). The song This Old War is taken from the three-song Cross of Gold EP in anticipation of The Senators’ (yet untitled) forthcoming sophomore release. So, draw nigh to their brand of luminescent rusticity. It’ll spill into your bloodstream like moonshine, and rise like sweet woodsmoke into the swaying boughs of your affection. Peace. still corners // strange pleasures
Pop this candy-wrapped sound sweet into your ear and enjoy. Check out the just released sophomore 12-song follow-up LP Strange Pleasures from London-based dream pop practitioners Still Corners. Tessa Murray and Greg Hughes delivered mightily with their 2010 Creatures of an Hour and not surprisingly stand in the place where obviously lightning strikes twice yet again. And for a limited time you can stream the entire enchilada via Sub Pop Records and Soundcloud. Continue reading “still corners // strange pleasures”
