tycho | awake lp

Scott Hansen, Zac Brown, Rory O’Connor are Tycho and joyfully not the other way around. Often bands get identified by their stage name and the therefore the all important aspects of the contributing individuals gets lost in the mix. All instrumental songs are special to me, because they rely on the lyric of the music to add dept of character and gracious color ridden radiance translated to a listener without uttering a single word. The music of Tycho speaks to you and the timbre of your soul shivers from it’s sheer honesty and tonal sincerity.

Oh, and if you haven’t please give a listen to Tycho’s crazy sin-insatiable Dive LP it’ll give your goosebumps goosebumps too.

Tycho is set to release the beautifully structured AWAKE LP April 8th 2014 courtesy of Ghostly International. This album is great for anything you need it to be, and naturally you can of course Pre-order it via Amazon ISO50 and iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “tycho | awake lp”

múm // early birds

It isn’t fair nor it is an easy task to try to put the band Múm into any one category, so I won’t. Especially, when they are so much more than just another Icelandic pop band. In terms of their position in the wide and ever evolving constellation of music these folk hold a singular place in my heart. Not many bands are so expansive, in that Múm will touch your heart and your head simultaneously. On June 1st the band released a compilation of material ranging from 1998-2000 (roughly), and it is beyond wonderful. I have two treats for you after the jump. One is a new video for “Hvernig Á Að Særa Vini Sína” (How to Hurt Your Friends) directed by Máni M. Sigfússon. Secondly, I have a new (downloadable) single entitled 0,000Orð. The latter track is all kinds of dreamy accoutrement, the kind which makes perfect accompaniment to a (sought after) tranquil existence. Peace. Continue reading “múm // early birds”

giraffage // feels

San Franciscan Charlie Yin is the musical mystic behind the holistic sounds known as Giraffage. Listen to the tracks “Feels” and discover what it feels like to listen to an assortment of happy sounds commingling joyously together. After the jump I’ve also included Giraffage’s slow love making soundscape Comfort (2011) for your auditory pleasure. Peace.

Dntel // Still

James Scott “Jimmy” Tamborello bka Dntel is a lot things, but it’s his skill at composing wickedly chill electronica that has garnered him the most attention.  The track “Chill” is a perfect example of his ongoing and ever-expanding oeuvre. Most recently, his latest LP titled Aimlessness is total dream production. This release is 12-tracks of gorgeously sculpted music; it’s the stuff burning candles and iridescent moonlight listen to when they want to vibe out. You can also check out his superb internet show Dying Songs exclusively at dublab, which is the perfect accompaniment to chill evenings spent maxin’ and relaxin’. Peace. Moby // The Poison Tree (David Lynch Remix)

Without a shred of doubt Moby is a veritable sound messiah sent to aid in the deliverance of sub par musical choices. He leads us, rather melodically, out of the wasteland pop music purgatory and into the lofty heights of his very own refuge of musical bliss. Oh yeah, it’s like that and that’s just the way it is. Now, enter another indisputable icon, David Lynch. And really there is little left to say but enjoy and get your musical worship on. By the way, you get the “The Poison Tree (David Lynch Remix) as a FREE DOWNLOAD courtesy of my friends at RCRD LBL. Peace. Continue reading “Moby // The Poison Tree (David Lynch Remix)”

Air Tycoon / / Land Locked

There resides within the music of Air Tycoon poetry aplenty. Epic tomes stitched through with canticles and the laughter of mermaids frolicking amongst whitecaps and the cry of seagulls. There are arias too, beleaguered and redolent with beauteous moods, and deep within these sounds swirls nautiluses and the gossamer breath of long-winded eternity. Joe Garcia bka Air Tycoon is a young architect of audibles trills, an apprentice of the highest order, and he erects sonic edifices with little effort, yet with much meaning in the heart of the listener. I can only bow my head and offer a soul-felt thanks you. Peace. Continue reading “Air Tycoon / / Land Locked”

Air Tycoon // Winter Purple

At first listen you may ask yourself, “How can a mere 19-year old make such beautiful music?” Well, I’m not sure of the answer 19-year old Air Tycoon, bka Joe Garcia would give, and the only thing I can offer is a shrug of the shoulders and to implore you to just enjoy the music this young man is putting out. And putting it out good music for Air Tycoon seems to be quite the prolific thing to do. Since August of 2011 his output has included 4-EPs of high-caliber music. And it’s really nice of  Mr. Garcia to keep me in the loop whenever a new joint drops. And, I’m just glad to be on the ground floor with a good vantage point, so I can watch Air Tycoon’s climb higher and oh so higher! Listen to his latest Winter Purple release. And although I have the latest Winter Purple LP here after the jump, you have to go to his bandcamp and read his postscript. Totally badass. Peace.  Continue reading “Air Tycoon // Winter Purple”

Teen Daze // Brooklyn Sunburn

starring out into the see // I sea complete // & all the possibilities I peruse// inspire dreams of conjure  // anon the sleeping of awakened muse  // propel senses to delicately wander  // & so i tread where the sounds teach me less  // these answers to life’s test  // this questioning ponders.

At times you just have to let the music take you wherever it chooses to lead. However, Vancouver’s Teen Daze inspires the opposite, in that the music goes out on a limb and let’s him take the reigns. Heady stuff for sure. But, when the music trusts you so implicitly the results are sublime. Check out the astral first release “Brooklyn Sunburn” from the forthcoming debut full length All Of Us, Together out May 22nd via Lefse Records. Peace. Continue reading “Teen Daze // Brooklyn Sunburn”
