The Avalanches hail from Melbourne, Australia and they have a famous reputation for constructing unique and eclectic music from sampling. The rumor has it the group’s debut LP Since I Left You was made using over 3,500 unique samples of various clips from a plethora of records, movies, and television shows. Check out the music and the video for the pretty cool and classic track, “Frontier Psychiatrist” it is sweet as hell. Although this one is over a few years old it still shines like the sun. Peace. dragonette // rocket ship

With lyrics like, “your cookies creamy middle yum” the brand new song from Dragonette is a whole lot of fun, albeit risqué, goodness! And as an added bonus the track is yours for the taking as a FREE DOWNLOAD. You can’t beat that with a stick! And just so you know, this song is taken from the band’s forthcoming LP Bodyparts which will drop this coming September (US + Canada: Sept 25) and (Europe: Sept 24). But folks there is more!

dena // cash, diamond rings, swimming pools

Born and raised in Bulgaria. DENA is the nouveau Hip Hop global flavored project of Berlin-based songwriter and vocalist Denitza Todorova. It sounds (and looks) like she’s set to make a big splash, everywhere. Initially, DENA’s style reminded me of the Beastie Boys meets M.I.A. with a smidgin of Santigold tossed in just to keep things interestingly relevant. I love the way she attacks the mic with faux bravado without pretentiousness, while still maintaining her integrity and originality. This is authentic and fun inducing Hip Hop. Cherub // XOXO (don winsley remix)

Perennial funksters (not hipsters) duo Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber bka Cherub are funky! Imagine if Rick James’ sweat was crystallized into pill form, dusted with the liquored breath of the best dance music available, then served piping hot between the sweaty thighs of R&B and Soul music personified in the form of Pam Grier in her heyday. Yes, it’s an image you won’t soon forget, and like the Don Winsley remix of “XOXO” it’s a track your ears aren’t likely to soon forget either.  So go ahead, douse yourself in this vat of clarified soul essence, and they’ll be mopping up your puddled form off the dance floor as soon as the track ends.
