star slinger // iv + teams vs. star slinger

Star Slinger not only reps Manchester, UK but he does his damndest to rep a groove regardless of its country of origin. And he doesn’t just fiddle faddle around. His is a labor of love, respect and appreciation for the material. Listen, as he breathes new life into both old and new school music across a plethora of genres whilst creating present day classics right before our very ears. No, its not magic. Just mad talent.

IV is his latest, as the Roman numerals indicate, it is four tracks representing Star Slinger in his element.

Here is where you click for the IV FREE DOWNLOAD

Also, check out the Star Slinger vs. Teams vinyl release. This one is an all day sonic sucker seemingly without limitations (or loss of flava’). But what makes this one especial is how it was made. This is an online collaboration between producers Star Slinger (reppin’ the UK)  and Teams (standing loud and proud for the US). This platter is not only a display of the-without-borders mentality, but in addition it showcases the synergy that is tapped into when phenomenal personalities team up and move the possibilities forever forward. Although the music is mined from samples spanning R&B and modern soul classics, it is reworked and revived into a matrix of hip-hop rhythms and the results are sunshiny eargasms galore. The end product is stultifying and mind-numbing. This is the ultimate homage to the oldies but goodies, and in no way diminishes what was, but instead it is a salute and the proverbial hats off. Peace. Continue reading “star slinger // iv + teams vs. star slinger”

orange creme // glass disco ep

orange creme // glass disco ep

This is the sound of after hours New York disco. It is familiar and haunting. Cosmic and analog. At times reminiscent of Lindstrom, and Todd Terje but with its own unique Brooklyn atmosphere.

On the first track: Night Train, the rhythm is gorgeous disco funk, with stabs of glittering synths – and a middle section that surprises with hazy, bubbling arpeggios that seem stolen from an italo soundtrack.

Sunset Drive is a more intense four-to-the-floor cut. The rubbery bass intertwining with waves of shimmering, repetitive synth lines over a deep, driving kick and detailed percussion. It’s a track that takes 1990’s house and re-imagines it as psychedelic deep disco.

It is available online for free download and in a limited edition cassette at record stores in NYC on Cassette Store Day, September 7th.
Details will be posted on our website. Thank you for your time and for listening. Peace. Continue reading “orange creme // glass disco ep”

blkkathy // dem bones + fake b###h + shake you off + video

According to their label Deep Ellum Records “BLKKATHY is a Brooklyn-based duo, sometimes trio, of ladies who like to sing sad songs over very heavy bass beats...” And after listening to their songs the description is mostly true, aside from the fact that I just feel a strong compulsion to tongue kiss my speakers right now whilst Dem Bones waft seductively around my head space. Although the songs dropped last year, the girls are still gathering momentum, which will hopefully compel them towards a debut release. No word on an official release as of yet, but let’s raise a glass and toast to hope eternal.

You can still get a FREE DOWNLOAD of Dem Bones and Fake Bitch via Bandcamp. However, the crown jewel is the bass heavy staccato groove Shake You Off. As a matter of fact I’m dancin’ in my chair as I pen this. Come join me on the dance floor. Peace. Continue reading “blkkathy // dem bones + fake b###h + shake you off + video”

charli xcx // you (ha ha ha) (goldroom remix)

The music is no laughing matter, so let’s just dance.

DJ/Producer Goldroom has the ability to build upon an original track in ways few others can. Here he broadens the Charli XCX track “You” (Ha Ha Ha) into something hypnotic and introspective. Thus enriching each note and lyric with the light of understanding. In the end though the greatest remedy is to get up and dance. Trust in the music and let it wash your worries all away. At least for a little while. Peace. Continue reading “charli xcx // you (ha ha ha) (goldroom remix)”
