la luz | believe my eyes

La Luz always makes me want to pack up my shit and leave all other music behind. Makes me want to take an early retirement and get to chillin’ on a remote South American beach and drink San Miguel. And my adoration mostly has to do with the chill vibe (and mostly Shana Cleveland’s pale moon vocals) they collectively cast off. Recently the “ladies four” premiered a skulking-around-the-dark-edges track titled Believe My Eyes. And even though the track didn’t make it onto the band’s forthcoming Weirdo Shrines LP, its been dreaming of the light of day, and guess what? Well, it means that it’s rise and shine time for this hauntingly beautiful little number. Makes me happy. Continue reading “la luz | believe my eyes”

protomartyr | come & see

Protomartyr is more than a Detroit-based band. This is a band which embodies all the good and bad of a troubled city on the cusp of deliverance or economic irrelevancy. Their songs are raw and a bit schizophrenic to the opposite of anything resembling a fault. Yet, there exists beauty of an austere sort of nature. This is post-punk angst revitalized and resurrected from obscurity. Frontman Joe Casey’s dry ice vocals set the tone for the achingly raucous songs which occupy their forthcoming album Under Color of Official Right via Hardly Art Records. These are fast paced odes of pain wrapped with dirty bandages, and the fact that they don’t heal right only lends authenticity of character to an album that is an apt catharsis for despair. This album is an up-all-nighter for damn sure. Look for Under Color of Official Right to drop April 8th. Peace. Continue reading “protomartyr | come & see”

black marble // a great design &

chris stewart and ty kube joined forces as the electro-goth duo black marble. and if you enjoy dark moody music reminiscent of the cure, new order and even depeche mode them these are the guys your ears may want to get familiar with. after the jump check out two songs, “a great design” and “a different arrangement”, the latter of the two has a beat similar to the cure’s “close to you” (my opinion). the band black marble released their latest lp ‘a different arrangement’ on october 9th via hardly art records. also, if this band is your cup of tea, then check out their ‘weight against the door’ ep. both are available on itunes and wherever beautiful, albeit haunting pre-recorded melancholy is sold. peace. La Sera // Break My Heart

Vivian Girls alum Katy “Kickball” Goodman returns with her project La Sera and the first single “Break My Heart” is the spitting image of Lo-Fi love gone asunder beneath the hammer drop of irreconcilable differences and a hail of fuzzy guitar. And this is only the first song! I can hardly wait to hear what the rest of her 2nd solo album Sees the Light sounds like. Hopefully, there is more gorgeous music. Peace.
