mass gothic | nice night

Noel Heroux formerly of the New York rockfit Hooray For Earth, has broken type and reinvented himself, musically and otherwise, as Mass Gothic. The new music is rich, raw and with a low sail it plows the rough seas of the human heart beautifully. His self-titled Sub-Pop release marks a new unencumbered journey and sonically I am all in and loving it. The track Nice Night has a way of both lifting and dampening my spirits and maybe that’s the point. The album Mass Gothic is out now courtesy of Sub Pop Records. Peace. Hundred Waters does good music. But you know this, so it is not surprising (GASP!) to hear their sonically noble track get abundant blessings with the release of the Show Me Love (Skrillex Remix). We’re talking Mount Everest elevation here, and a higher plane of existence as a result of the deft wonder work of Mr. Sonny J. Moore, Chance The Rapper, Moses Sumney and Robin Hannibal respectively. DJ Shadow pumps our ears full of fun with his latest collaborative track Nobody Speak featuring NYC’s dem spittin’ figha’ boys Run The Jewels ( El-P and Killer Mike). The Florida outfit Copeland have a way of ingratiating within listeners a sense of longing and peace. Even if beyond your earbuds the world is falling apart you’ll find sufficient solace in their down tempo arias. And if music is indeed a refuge then the Ixora Twin release is a purring, soft-edged and low-lit ambulance come to ferry our damaged remains to a place of other worldly bliss.

For more, gather your legion of emotions and lay them at the forgiving feet of every song on this album. For Copeland fans, and anyone else in need of a beautiful bomb shelter, check out Copeland’s amazing Ixora Twin release for it just might change your world.

Aussie song craftsman Dustin Tebbutt is new to me and although that isn’t necessarily a ringing endorsement it’s okay. Because once you listen to the music nothing else will matter anyway. His latest and forthcoming work will come to us in the form of the mini-album Home release. To date we have his study in all things tranquil and adulatory. la luz | believe my eyes

La Luz always makes me want to pack up my shit and leave all other music behind. Makes me want to take an early retirement and get to chillin’ on a remote South American beach and drink San Miguel. And my adoration mostly has to do with the chill vibe (and mostly Shana Cleveland’s pale moon vocals) they collectively cast off. Recently the “ladies four” premiered a skulking-around-the-dark-edges track titled Believe My Eyes. And even though the track didn’t make it onto the band’s forthcoming Weirdo Shrines LP, its been dreaming of the light of day, and guess what?
