Moe’s Implosion – Light Pollution

From Portugal five-piece rock band Moe’s Implosion, released their debut album this week, Light Pollution and it’s a whole lot of joyful albeit raucous noise. After gaining a bit of name recognition and street cred in Spain, Portugal and other parts of Europe the boys from the land of gentle ways are set to take over your ear space muito rápido! They have a good chance of succeeding to with the dynamic and utterly bedazzling music they create. Check out their album below. Peace.

Secret Knives – Affection

Alright, I got something to proclaim. Secret Knives should be more popular in the U.S. than they are by now. Maybe I’m overstating my assertion, you think? Not even. I’m an incredibly large advocate of letting the music speak for itself. So, after the jump you’ll find the entire Affection album.  I am abundantly confident you’re going to love it.  Watch out for the tracks The Shining, Affection and the incredibly gorgeous song The Garden. Let me apologize in advance for withholding such a wonderful bundle of songs. Didn’t you know? The band from Wellington, New Zealand rocks! Peace. Continue reading “Secret Knives – Affection”

Real Estate – It’s Real

Regardless of what the current economic market reflects there is a hopeful uptick in Real Estate. Clever I know. Forgive me my horrible puns, but I am correct in this; the band Real Estate is a great location to settle your ears for a long listen. Alex Bleeker, Martin Courtney IV, Mathew Mondanile III, Jackson Pollis and Jonah Mauer round out the quintet. Although the bands latest album Days dropped back in October I am just getting around to listening to it. Partly because I’ve been inundated with so much fantastic music. But mainly because I just downloaded my pre-ordered copy a few days ago. At any rate, if you like mellow multipurpose music to get you through your days and nights intact then this band fits the bill. Peace.

Check out a live session of Real Estate performing the song “It’s Real”. Heavens to Betsy these guys sound amazing live.

Also, listen to the song “Municipality”, it will lull your soul to a peaceful place. True story.

now, now // giants

Instantly I liked this. It’s the tickling synth intro. Then the gently thrummed guitar. It’s the steady uphill climb until the sun breaks out and singer-keyboardist-guitarist Cacie Dalager opens her mouth. She had me at, “If I believed in god I would not have done the things you’ve done…” What is there to do against such a song? Nothing. Just try and be still and attune every fiber of your being to the task of listening and absorbing every single note. “Giants” is a formidable and precious song, even more so in its acoustic version. Which is also available on their EP Neighbors. Their album dropped last year 2010, but so what, it’s still brilliantly awesome. Peace.

P.S. Is Cacie Dalager channeling Harriet Wheeler? Just a thought. Continue reading “now, now // giants”

Extra Arms – In Parrallel

All I can say is give this album a listen. I’m not going to go on about how fantastic the band Extra Arms is, nope not this go round. I’ve listened to their latest LP In Parallel a lot and it still hasn’t gotten old. I hear references of The Cure and Radiohead. But that’s ok,  a band has gotta have their influences, right? I’m done talking, stream the entire album below. Peace.

We Were Promised Jetpacks – In The Pit Of The Stomach

Since their debut album These Four Walls hit in 2009 I have been a fan of We Were Promised Jetpacks. The alternative pop/post-punk-rock quartet from Edinburgh, Scotland are in my opinion underrated. Listen to the tracks“Medicine” and “Act On Impulse” from their new LP In The Pit Of The Stomach, out now. The rest of the album moves along at a heady jaunt displaying all the reasons why they are soon to become one of your most favorite under appreciated bands. Without a doubt this LP is a more polished affair than their debut release. However, polished production doesn’t always equal better music, right? WWPJ works for me because Adam Thompson lets the listener inside. This isn’t contrived bullshit masquerading as something genuine and authentic. We Were Promised Jetpacks are four regular guys, and yes, they make excellent music about the mundane emotions everyday people deal with, i.e. heartbreak, rejection, and sadness, sound familiar? But in addition, their music bristles with hope-fucking-eternal. It’s music that connects. So, is not ironic that the album is titled In The Pit Of The Stomach, ’cause that’s where it hits you. Check it. Peace.

Army Girls – Close To The Bone

I like duos, maybe because I’m a minimalist at heart. More than likely though I think duos have to be pretty fuckin’ talented to get so much out of so little. That said, I offer you Army Girls and their debut Close To The Bone EP (Blocks Recording Club). Toronto is a veritable hot bed of talent and Carmen Elle and fellow band mate Andy Smith are a living testament of this. Army Girls clearly demonstrate how much a duo can rock. I’ll keep this short and oh so sweet. This EP is a keeper. Peace.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Hysterical

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Spending time with the new LP from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is like spending time with someone comfortable and familiar. Listening to their album Hysterical is a journey, from the hyper-sugar high that is “Maniac”, to the more sedate and soulful fare of “Misspent Youth”.  Regardless, this is a very tactile album, definitely something you can sink you ears into for many moons to come. No waiting for this one because its already out. Peace.
