Embeds allowing bloggers to easily embed videos from Distrify. Just go to any Distrify film page or player and copy the URL. Paste that URL in any WordPress blog and it will automatically be converted to an embedded Distrify player. If you are logged in to distrify.com it will automatically add your affiliate tracking code to your embeds. Make sure you turn on Auto-embeds in your WP settings and also make sure that the URL is on its own line and not hyperlinked (clickable when viewing the post). The plugin also extracts the still image from the film and saves it as the Featured Image for the post. This actually works for any Embed (not just Distrify) that you embed into your WordPress blog. Recently, a good friend of mine told me, “Keep doing what you’re doing, your strength is in your musical diversity.” To me her words spoke volumes, and it makes me hungrier and more determined to keep toiling away at this blog and getting the music out there, because in my mind genres are meaningless. Good music stands on it’s own two feet. Now, back to the music. This time I’m bringing you a band whose music is like molasses: it is deep and brooding and it aches from too much time spent inside the dark corners of one’s head. It also possesses a bleak bitter sweetness which simultaneously makes you nervous, yet curious.  No surprise Al James’ Dolorean is from Portland, Oregon which is also hometown to not a few good folk rock bands. For those who care this  Dicky Dahl directed video for the song “Black Hills Gold” is loosely based on The Beach Boy’s drummer Dennis Wilson. But honestly, it could be held up as mirror to anyone’s life, especially if that life casts a long muddy shadow which engulfs the now with shouts from a regrettable past. Peace.

For more Dolorean visit Partisan Records. The song “Black Hills Gold” is taken from the band’s fourth album the 2011 release The Unfazed.

Like most people I love taking trips, even when traveling no further than my own mind. The Lafayette, CO duo Gauntlet Hair take me back and forward simultaneously in my very own Back to the Future-esque sound quest. I’m weird like that didn’t you know? Whatever. Regardless of my mental state at the moment, I hear so many nice sounds when listening to the song “Top Bunk” and its the categorization of those sound references that I usually avoid. Not this time because this one is such a fun mental mash-up. What I hear is 80’s alternative bands: for instance in my mind if the sound of New Order were genetically merged with the sound of the band Big Country then the resulting mutant would be Gauntlet Hair. Let me know if your feeling me (not literally) on this, well I’m off. Enjoy your trip too. Peace.

Also, to back up my 80’s references check out the William Doyle directed video for Gauntlet Hair‘s “Top Bunk” its badass!

It’s not so easy to take an old format and make it fresh and invigorating again. But that is exactly what A Classic Education has done, and has been doing since the band formed in 2007. If the music feels like something you’d expect to hear from the 1950s or 60s it isn’t by mistake, it’s by design. Check out the video below for the song “Gone To Sea”. Right off the bat is doesn’t sound like anything else you’ve heard lately from this era. The guitar is subdued and mellow, the drum-work sounds like Dennis Wilson (of Beach Boys fame) is working the sticks effortlessly. Then there is the vocals  of singer/songwriter Jonathon Clancy, which coincidentally sound almost identical to that of Jim McGuinn of the Byrds. Yet, it all comes together nicely and works big time. I’ve also included the song “Forever Boy”, which is one of my favorites. Give them a listen and I think you’ll enjoy this octet  from Italy. Their debut LP Call It Blazing is out now. Peace.
