Dolorean – Black Hills Gold

Recently, a good friend of mine told me, “Keep doing what you’re doing, your strength is in your musical diversity.” To me her words spoke volumes, and it makes me hungrier and more determined to keep toiling away at this blog and getting the music out there, because in my mind genres are meaningless. Good music stands on it’s own two feet. Now, back to the music. This time I’m bringing you a band whose music is like molasses: it is deep and brooding and it aches from too much time spent inside the dark corners of one’s head. It also possesses a bleak bitter sweetness which simultaneously makes you nervous, yet curious.  No surprise Al James’ Dolorean is from Portland, Oregon which is also hometown to not a few good folk rock bands. For those who care this  Dicky Dahl directed video for the song “Black Hills Gold” is loosely based on The Beach Boy’s drummer Dennis Wilson. But honestly, it could be held up as mirror to anyone’s life, especially if that life casts a long muddy shadow which engulfs the now with shouts from a regrettable past. Peace.
