anushka | mansions

Brighton duo Anushka (Victoria Port and Max Wheeler) take music making to new and highly enjoyable directions. Their brand of music is a blend of soulful R&B/electro (think Erykah Badu with futuristic electeroid tendacies) music. To date I haven’t heard a wrong move by the duo. They are on my radar and I expect major success is just around the corner. Anushka’s debut album Broken Circuit is out now courtesy of Brownswood Recordings. Peace. ang low | life goes down ep

Psst! The world is filled with vast soundscapes blossoming bouquets of possibility, infinitely. Why do I love penning this music blog? Well, everyday I am surprised and therefore thankful for the many artist adding their creative input and making me a believer over and over again. So, just so you know the Top 40 ain’t the only gig in town folks.

Check out Brooklynite Ang Low and his latest, the Life Goes Down EP. The EP includes 4-tracks, Can’t Describe Her, which unfolds like dark and sultry rose petals, dew heavy with the trappings of a heavy R&B influence. The EP title-track Life Goes Down sashays sweetly within the bell of your ear, this is the gospel of love at it’s finest, a declaration proclaiming devotion and a requited loveship forevermore. Then there is the tender as butterfly wings, Win Back Your Love, and the battle is on, to win back love…

The final reveal, Voodoo Woman is a frenetic shadow chant like a fiery shot over the bow of would be lovers the world over. Yet, to no avail for what is love without chaos and vice versa. At any rate you’ve be warned. All in all Ang Low fuses hormone infused lushness with atmospheric electronics with tinges of R&B and Soul and it is all tied up neatly with amazing vocals.

Ang Low’s debut the Life Goes Down EP drops courtesy of Luv Luv Luv Records on March 31st, 2014. Peace. Continue reading “ang low | life goes down ep”

basecamp | basecamp ep

basecamp  //  basecamp ep

Although BASECAMP may hail from Nashville, Tennessee this this trio of producers, singers and songwriters uproot any and all preconceptions of what geography may dictate.  Yet, in todays’ modern age of a musical world without borders is it really surprising that they sound like a sponge dropped into the bucket of R&B forethought, afterthought and future thought? No, not really. Listen to their self-titled BASECAMP EP and luxuriate within sensual bass and lush synth bubbles for theirs is a sound replete with lavender scented candles alight with flickering flame. The BASECAMP release includes four wondrous tracks and each one is scintillatingly hot (my fav is 2 Thingz). Listen to all after the jump and download them all for FREE! How freakin’ cool is that. Enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “basecamp | basecamp ep”

autre ne veut // on & on + counting

“Anxiety in children is originally nothing other than an expression of the fact they are feeling like they want everyone to leave them the hell alone” – My Version of Sigmund Freud

autre ne veut  //  on & on + counting

The artist Autre Ne Veut (Arthur Ashin) is fast becoming quite the sensation in 2013 with his brand of forward motion R&B. His latest release, Anxiety, is the full-length follow up to Autre Ne Veut’s 2010 self-titled debut. And if the reviews for the album Anxiety are to believed this artist is here to stay, filling our collective ears with a disaccharides-laden falsetto and high quality production to spare. After the jump, check out the tracks On & On and Counting, the songs are not only easy to listen to but you’ll return to them because they’ve got an sensuous allure which is pretty hard to resist. Also, check out the full album stream on YouTube. Peace.

pony bwoy // hallowed ground + dark soccer

Obscenity is in the eye of the beholder. But like Ol’ Dirty B once said, “Baby I like it raw”.

pony bwoy // hallowed ground + dark soccer

Pony Bwoy is the latest project from rapper/singer/provocateur Jeremy Nutzman (aka Spyder Baybie Raw Dog), this time teaming up with producer Hunter Morley. Departing from his usual antics as a drugged-up after-party boy late to the club, Nutzman has now blossomed into a soulful smooth-talker, with vocal chops and rhythmic control of uncanny proportions. This transformation is no doubt a result of his collaborating with H. Morley and his forward thinking R&B-inspired production. The songs of Pony Bwoy vary from dance floor anthems to late-night chill zone lullabies perfect accompaniment for conjoined intimacy and solo exploration in the fine art of herblaxation. Album drops tomorrow July 16th. Peace. Continue reading “pony bwoy // hallowed ground + dark soccer”

rainy milo // deal me briefly

With barely a fistful of songs the young neophyte and Neo R&B/Pop princess Rainy Milo is fast becoming quite the prolific artist with yet another release. Check out her latest, the Deal Me Briefly track was produced by down under soul-man Chet Faker and this track sounds a lot more grown up and musically sophisticated than her previous offerings. This one twists and undulates hypnotically through your ears and goads the body to respond likewise. Additional work includes both her Limey and Black & Blonde EPs. Check ’em out. Peace. child of lov // child of lov

The Child of Lov creates an amalgam of divergent sounds. Some his, others not so much. This 25-year old from the Netherlands seems to have been to the thrift shop of music and gathered bits from veritable legends: Ali Farka Toure, Ravi Shankar and the glowing sounds of 60’s soul. All this (and more) he’s sewn tenuously together with a triple-twined thread taken from Bootsy Collins, Jimmy Hendrick, and Prince’s respective funky manish manes. the weeknd // twenty-eight (explicit = nsfw)

More like forty-days and forty-nights of something totally intoxicating.

The Weeknd is a crooner par excellence and his track (and video) are no exception. If you are a fan of Mr. Abel Tesfaye, well, the song “Twenty-Eight,” has everything you’ve come to expect from this Toronto native. It is soulful, sexy and ringed by vocals that will send shivers across her erogenous zones (hey, less work for you right?). By the way this video is a bit explicit so handle your business and show some discretion. Peace. Continue reading “the weeknd // twenty-eight (explicit = nsfw)”
