If you or anyone you know is a Pretty Lights fan this is the ultimate brass ring of PL fan-dome. For well over two years Pretty Lights (Derek Vincent Smith) spent collecting behind the scene footage from studio sessions across the country with a litany of well known and barely (all talented beyond belief) musicians and vocalists, the project partnered with VICE – and their electronic (EDM) and forward thinking music channel, THUMP – to tell the story of A Color Map of the Sun. But as exciting as the documentary is what’s even better is the forthcoming album entitled Live Studio Sessions: from A Color Map of the Sun which contains 13 of the raw unmolested analog tape recordings that were pressed to vinyl in order to sample for the album. , it drops July 2nd. The Live Studio Sessions recordings are on the 2nd disc of the A Color Map of the Sun CD set. Live Studio Sessions will also be included as part of the free download of A Color Map of the Sun via www.prettylightsmusic.com and on the deluxe version of the album in digital music stores. Pretty Lights // We Must Go On (Video)
For fans of Pretty Lights when you hear on the wire that mew material is afoot it’s like a birthday present for your ears, and they just can’t wait to unwrap the shiny new sounds inside. And with every new Pretty Lights track you’re a bit stupefied at the continuous breadth of Derek’s creativity and originality. Bro takes it higher every time. So it is with “We Must Go On” and its electric space-time continuum vibe, and sassy bass. A bass so primal and naked it’s akin to the reverberations of an exploding distant star light-years away: the lament of the end, but the joy of a beautiful beginning too. Like all of his work, it is an amalgamation of many presences both varied and new. As if all the corners of the world came together into a fluidity of plangent sound. In this case, a sound so enchanting it enthralls your soul, and you find yourself communing peacefully and dreamily with every sunrise and sunset, past, present and future. Peace. Pretty Lights – It’s Tricky (Run DMC – SSX Remix)
What better way to pay homage to one of Hip Hops most enduring and genre defining groups than to offer up this stargazing and star-scraping remix by none other than Pretty Lights. Colorado-based mixoligist/producer Derek Vincent Smith, aka Pretty Lights gives it up with a sickness, and raises the bar high (really high).
