King Khan and the Shrines don’t play. This is a band fronted by Arish Ahmad Khan, the band’s Berlin-based, Montreal-born, Indian frontman and he has a way of getting inside your head and heart. The spooky (but good) video for Darkness is a stop-motion animation delight. We can thank the five-person German animation collective Hylas for that. This is the rare case of a video (almost) upstaging the song. No matter they both work extremely well together.

The track Darkness, is taken from the band’s release “Idle No More” (it drops  September 3rd via Merge Records), and ts first in six years, reflects Khan’s own obstacles. “I sort of had a breakdown and was undergoing these serious psychiatric things, so I had to turn off my brain completely,” he revealed. “These tracks come after thinking I’d never write music again.”

But also, the albums title is more than meets the eyes. King Khan offered this statement on the release:

“It has been a lengthy hiatus, but we have finally finished our latest “masterpiece” and named it after an incredible indigenous-rights movement that is happening right now called Idle No More.”

The album’s title undergoes multiple dualities, it also urges us to get up and do something meaningful. Don’t just complain, get engaged. Khan says, “It’s all about taking pain and suffering and turning it into joy,” Khan said. “That’s the music people need the most.” I couldn’t agree more. Peace.

If it seems like another bout of déjà vu well you’d be right on target. The Perth, Australia rockers of psychedelica Tame Impala have garnered yet another album of the year from Rolling Stone. Last year the foursome’s debut album ‘Innerspeaker’ won the  prestigious award. And if you listen to their 2012 sophomore LP ‘Lonerism‘ there would be little doubt why almost everyone is singing their praises. By the way, Tame Impala are touring soon, so if you want to catch this spectacular band live and in person here’s you chance to say, “I was there when…”. Peace.

there is so much buzz circling the perth, australia band tame impala right currently you just might assume they are the hardest working worker bees in the colony. band helmsman kevin parker and company dropped the band lonerism lp a few days ago (october 9th) and so far anyone who’s listened to it are all in and giving it two thumbs up. but, with songs like, “elephant” and the phenomenally psychedelic and beautiful rock gem, “apocalypse dream,” it doesn’t surprise me at all. this release will def go down as one of the best albums of 2012, and you can cop a copy right here on itunes. peace.

The upcoming album release ‘Hear Eye Go’ by the duoGolden Animals (Tommy Eisner & Linda Beercroft) is a 10-song infusion of 60’s rock (psychedelic, blues and tad rockabilly) influenced songcraft. This is a body of work which glides from one song to the next on an ethereal cloud of nostalgia and smoky luminosity. And, although the songs are mostly forlorn punches into the dark recesses of heartache, it also jabs holes into the fabric of moodiness to let the day-glow in. The album hits digitally october 30th, and after a successful kickstarter campaign the duo is set to launch another kickstarter campaign to press and self-release vinyl via Anubis Records. Peace.

Bergen, Norway is generally known as “the Gateway to the Fjords of Norway.” But, no one told me I’d find the white-water thrashing guitar of super psychedelica band Megaphonic Thrift. I think I need to get out of the country, and particularly, I need to hop a flight to take in the burgeoning Norwegian music scene. And if you don’t understand my enthusiasm for the land of the midnight sun then listen to the songs “Raising Flags” and “Tune Your Mind.” And on that musical note, I rest my case. The MT‘s latest release drops on February 7th and I am most definitely copping this STAT! Peace.

But hey, what do I know? With their recently released video “Bicycle,” taken from their self-titled release Unknown Mortal Orchestra I’m positive you’ll want more.
