cathedrals | howling

San Fransisco based indie dream pop rock duo Cathedrals release new material with their latest track Howling. The track wafts into your ear space with a low thrumming bass line intertwined with atypical fingered guitar work. But it is the “get to me every time” vocals of Ms. Brodie Jenkins that is the hook in the fishes mouth. The band is finishing up work on their yet untitled album, and hopefully it will be another reason 2016 will be the best 2016 ever! Oh wait! Before you go make sure you head on over to the Hype Machine and give the Howling track all of your ❤. Peace. Continue reading “cathedrals | howling”

tycho | awake lp

Scott Hansen, Zac Brown, Rory O’Connor are Tycho and joyfully not the other way around. Often bands get identified by their stage name and the therefore the all important aspects of the contributing individuals gets lost in the mix. All instrumental songs are special to me, because they rely on the lyric of the music to add dept of character and gracious color ridden radiance translated to a listener without uttering a single word. The music of Tycho speaks to you and the timbre of your soul shivers from it’s sheer honesty and tonal sincerity.

Oh, and if you haven’t please give a listen to Tycho’s crazy sin-insatiable Dive LP it’ll give your goosebumps goosebumps too.

Tycho is set to release the beautifully structured AWAKE LP April 8th 2014 courtesy of Ghostly International. This album is great for anything you need it to be, and naturally you can of course Pre-order it via Amazon ISO50 and iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “tycho | awake lp”

sonny & the sunsets // antenna to the afterworld (our sunday best)

Sonny & The Sunsets return to not only thrill fans with just another album. This time out the subject matter will put listeners in touch with their last breath, and just maybe upon listening to this LP one’s life will unfurl before your eyes. Hopefully as an harbinger to entertainment and not the conclusion of ones’ lifeline..  Lead singer/songwriter Sonny Smith experienced the death of a close friend (our condolences) and this life event had a profound effect on his relationship and understanding of what it means to pass on the other side so to speak. The songs on the new LP Antenna To The Afterworld are quirky, introspective and yet still maintain a high degree of listenability. The songs take on various influences, at times sounding like new wave rockabilly and other times, they sound like something else entirely. The album hits the streets June  11th, 2013. Peace. the limousines // love is a dog from hell

Apparently, according to San Francisco-based band The Limousines (Eric Victorino and Giovanni Giusti) we have been warned, “Love Is A Dog From Hell”And perhaps yes, this is both a sometime apt proclamation,  which just so happens to be serving double-duty as a song title. The track is taken from the TL’s soon to be released LP Hush available for pre-order on Big Cartel. Peace. Continue reading “the limousines // love is a dog from hell”

cool ghouls // natural life

And may the best band rock!

The band Cool Ghouls hail from San Francisco, CA and even though I’m not sure what it means in terms of their ability to rock out, I can tell you this, they’re cool beans! Listen and be impressed as band members Pat Thomas, Ryan Wong, Pat McDonald, and Alex Fleshman make their own brand of Beach Boys-esque meets rockabilly folkish rock and funnel it through a futuristic shaggy-haired aesthetic. The C to the G dropped their beer-stained official self-named debut LP Cool Ghouls recently (April 23rd) and I highly recommend it on vinyl, which you can cop via Empty Cellar Records. Also, you can get a three-song preview of the songs Ballin’, Things I Seen and Natural Life by visiting Bandcamp. Peace. Continue reading “cool ghouls // natural life”

social studies // away for the weekend

From San Francisco with a satchel full of songs.

After the release of their 2010 release ‘Wind Up Wooden Heart‘ via Antenna Farm Records, the San Franciscan 5-piece band Social Studies spent a great deal of time touring and writing new material in preparation for their next album. After a short break in 2011 their latest album ‘Developer‘ was released late last year (2012). The song “Away For The Weekend,” is a tumbling rock-infused bossa nova track, and like every SS tune it is carried wonderfully by lead singer Natalia Rogovin‘s warm vocals. After the jump you can also take a peek at the band’s “Terracur,” video. You’re welcome. Peace. Continue reading “social studies // away for the weekend”

sepehr // when she’s around

Music is a drug.

Yes, we’re letting the music take you there tonight in more ways than one. I’ve reached back in the dust-pin and wiped off this gem. But don’t worry those nasty beats never go out of style. check out DJ/Producer Sephr and the space oddity track, “When She’s Around“. I’m also dropping Sephr’s latest Gulshick Radio mix for your listening pleasure. Peace. Continue reading “sepehr // when she’s around”

giraffage // visible

Giraffage // Comfort

Charlie Yin is Giraffage and this san francisco resident makes some of the chilliest music of 2012. and although his ‘Comfort’ album dropped in late 2011 it’s after effects were felt well into 2012. after the jump take an aural plunge in the depths and sonic euphoria that is, “Visible”. also, to stream and purchase the album go to Giraffage’s bandcamp. peace. Continue reading “giraffage // visible”

the soft moon // insides

san francisco-based indie artist the soft moon (luis vasquez) is riding a tear in the 80’s post-punk space-time continuum (think joy d,  biz-hous to the iz-hous and love & the rocketeers (if you need a translation shoot me an e-mail) to great effect. listen to the tracks “insides” and “die life,” you can practically feel the layers of reality peeling away one layer of sonic perception at a time. both tracks will appear on the october 30th (us) and november 5th (ue) sophomore album release ‘zeros‘. this is a whole lot of electric voodoo for your ear space. peace.
