TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) is known to untwist heads and with a long history of shooting heroin-esque aurals into earholes (and we’re junkies for every single TOKiMONSTA release) we are loving the new track. Drug pun so unintended.

And so it no surprise when we hear the cold crush that is the lead single Realla Feat. Anderson Paak (Yes, I’m done when the GIGANTAUR horns kick in AHHHHH YEAH!). The dangerously seductive track is lifted from the Desiderium album (out now courtesy of Young Art Records).

Finally, I really couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t leave your ears with the Lupe Fiasco (TOKiMONSTA Soperstar Remix). Peace.

Psst! Is it just me or does this track start off sounding like MJ’s Beat It? Continue reading “tokimonsta | realla feat. anderson paak”

tokimonsta // half shadows ♥ ♫

Here we are, securely ensconced smack dab betwixt the what was and the what will be of 2013. And with nearly half of the year behind us there is yet still much partying to do. I can’t think of a better mixologist to helm your good time than the uniquely talented TOKiMONSTA  (Jennifer Lee). Ms. MONSTA recently released a 2nd LP titled Half Shadows ([icon name=”icon-arrow-left”] check it out) via the bonafide heavy hitta’ label Ultra.

After the jump I assembled an introduction listening party: which includes the Go With It ft. MDNR as well as the benignly sexy Moon Rise ft. Jesse Boykins III. Both tracks are taken from her most excellent Half Shadows album. And, just so your eyes won’t get jealous of your ears I’ve thrown in some visuals too. The video for The Force ft. Kool Keith is pure psychedelic Hip Hop majesty. Peace.

eight and a half // scissors

In a wintry dream. I am slogging through a northern wood. Here, the evergreens are frilled with snow and laden with crystal icicles. I harvest a bundle. Returning home to my spartan cabin I build a fire, settling in for a coming storm. These icicles, I hang them in my windowsill. And as the last rays of the sun alight them with prismatic beauty, soon they begin to melt. As a result of their slackening a sound emits, slowly then builds. Eight and A Half is the sound. This sumptuous din comforts me, as I wait for the coming storm to pass. Justin Peroff of Broken Social Scene fame, along with The Stills’ alums Dave Hamelin and Liam O’Neil combine musical forces as Eight and a Half. Below, I’ve included two versions of their magnificent single “Scissors”. The first is the original and the latter is a splendid remix by TOKIMONSTA. Look for a full LP sometime in 2012. Enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “eight and a half // scissors”
