Gardens & Villa – Spacetime (Video)

Do you want something funky and whimsical in your life to turn up the corners of your mouth? I hope you’re like me, because I can always use any and every excuse to smile my most infectious smile. Santa Barbara’s futuristic hippie-ish band Gardens & Villa have what it takes to plaster a permanent grin all over your good looking mug. Their sound is a complex mix of clam bakes, wooded forest trails and interstellar space travel all wrapped up with the glowing psychedelic rainbow bow of Chris Lynch‘s voice. It’s a party for sure, albeit a laid back and dreamy soiree. I just visited their bandcamp and grabbed a bit of their magic for myself. And I must say, thus far it’s the most satisfying purchase of the day. Peace. Continue reading “Gardens & Villa – Spacetime (Video)”

Caged Animals – All The Beautiful Things In The World (Video) ***(NSFW)***

For the past few hours I have been telling myself this, “I am not a voyeur, I am not a voyeur, I am not a voyeur…” But damn it! Maybe I am and a sinner too, because I just keep on watching the very, hmmm, er… “artful” video “All The Beautiful Things In The World,” by those esteemed Brooklyn gents Caged Animals led by the consummate master of adult lullaby’s Vin Cacchione. But really, I gotta stop beating myself up over this (Pun?), the human body is a beautiful “aesthetically pleasing form,” so there shouldn’t be any shame is admiring it, right? At any rate the video is the highbrow creation of filmmaker/visual artist Jamie Harley, and the song is taken from the bands full LP release Eat Their Own, which debuted back in September ’11. I’m also throwing in the invigorating video for the song, “Girls On Medication,” because it is too much damn fun! Peace. trixie whitley // a thousand thieves (official video)

I found my new ‘Rocky’ song and it’s safe and secure, and on constant repeat in my heart. By the way, a Rocky-song is a song which taps into your inner underdog, and it is 100% pure motivation to boot (haters beware). The song “A Thousand Thieves,” which is the new single by the Belgian-born, mutli-talented Brooklyn-based Trixie Whitley. Check out the must see Matthu Placek-directed video. Watching the video is like witnessing the Winged Victory of Samothrace come to life. Hell, if Red Bull gives you wings, this song will definitely give you warp speed inducing rocket thrusters. Peace. Brother Ali – Writer’s Block (Video)

I like the direction rap in going: Everywhere at once! And Brother Ali is riding the points on that proverbial rap compass expertly. Here, we have Brother Ali dousing the mic with criminally insane phonics and Jake One on the skins. And the track “Writer’s Block?” Hell, this is just a preview of the forthcoming LP Mourning In America and Dreaming In Color. You can get the free download of the “Writer’s Block” single via Rhymesayers. Peace. Continue reading “Brother Ali – Writer’s Block (Video)”

Villagers – Cecelia & Her Selfhood

There are so many reasons why I so love the band Villagers, and I am so of the opinion they are on their of becoming one of the important voices of our age. So, it is with great pleasure that we present to you, the new video for ‘Cecelia & her Selfhood‘. A long-standing live favorite in Villagers shows, ‘Cecelia’ has finally been committed to film, and boy is it a treat both visually and musically. My hat off to animator magnifique Adrien Merigeau. And as I am often wont to say, nothing explains the music (in this case the film) better than the film itself. Nonetheless, the Villagers have provided a concise and vaguely pretentious synopsis:

“The film charts the development of a young man as he navigates his way through an impressionistic landscape in search of an elusive monster which is intent on destroying his childhood home. Lost and confused for the most part, he nonetheless uncovers the beast; a creature whose origins are both terrifying and liberating.” Continue reading “Villagers – Cecelia & Her Selfhood”

Everything Everything – MY KZ, UR BF

Everything Everything is one of those rare anomalies of a band, in that they have the uncanny ability to be several different bands rolled up into one, listen to their 2010 album Man Alive and you’ll understand just what I mean. In the song “MY KZ, UR BF” the listener is taken on a journey and for reasons justified they often don’t fancy returning to terra firma. Frontman Jonathan Higgs is definitely stealing the show with his forthright vocals, sounding like Chris Martin of Coldplay but way cooler and with much more swagger. I also love the blatant R&B rhythms melding ever so gently with the svelte electric-Pop-ish sound. It works, and that is all that matters. I also included a live version of the deadly sexy song “Schoolin'”, like me you will own this track come daylight, yeah its bad, MJ bad.  I posted the song “NASA Is On Your Side” just so you can feel it’s icy hand reach inside your chest and grab a fistful of your heart.
