naomi punk // the spell

“I am the sun/ I am the shooting star…”

sonically speaking our ears crave sound like a man flying into the sun craves sunglasses. and it is no mystery that the melodic and aurally titillating noises of northwest punk thrashers Naomi Punk somehow makes the brain swoon with joy. listening to the recently reissued debut lp ‘The Feeling’ via Captured Tracks is to experience the majesty and thrall of heavy guitar-laden artillery aimed bulls-eye perfect at your rock button (wherever that is). my favorite is track is “The Spell” and with good reason you’ll be listening to it cranked way up. peace. blood orange // neptune (ft. starchild) lemonade cover

what happens when an already gorgeous track, in this case Lemonade‘s heartfelt song, “Neptune” gets the Blood Orange (aka Devonté Hynes) treatment? well, good things ensue for damn sure. Devonté Hynes placed his very capable hands on this one and dragged it willingly (and slowly) through warm Courvoisier-tinged honey and we’re still reeling. then the cherry on top, is the verse by Starchild, which imbues it with a P.M. Dawn vibe that just don’t stop sending reverberations through spinal columns. yes, it’s smooth multiplied by infinity. peace. mystery pills // anti-pattern

it seems most things come full-circle. what i mean is there was a time when music was just music, in that you didn’t need a label or an agent, etc. south dakota native Rag Dawson embodies the organic origins of music making by going the whole diy route. his music represents every day emotions played out in his very own style. listen to the single release “anti-pattern” then check out the b-side “vital signs” at bandcamp. peace. noah and the megafauna // when you’re down (the slackjaw’s serenade)

the song “When You’re Down (The Slackjaw’s Serenade)” is taken from the debut album Anthem’s For A Stateless Nation, this eerily creepy (The Heliograph Project-directed) video features Noah and bandmate Ms. Emily St Amand Poliakoff together on camera again. And although this is no Oscar-winning performance it gets the job done. peace. Continue reading “noah and the megafauna // when you’re down (the slackjaw’s serenade)”

alt-j // buffalo (ft. mountain man)

Alt-J is one of the surprise breakout bands of 2012, and there is damn good reason for that without a doubt. Listen to their brand new song “Buffalo” featuring Mountain Man from the original motion picture soundtrack for Silver Linings Playbook. Also, just in case you missed it I included the backwardly interesting video for the song “Breezleblocks.” This is the song and video that put this band on a lot of people’s musical radar. Peace. kid cudi // just what i am (ft. king chip)

you may not know it but apparently kid cudi has higher aspirations in addition to holding down the mic and spitting sickly (and oh so eloquently) all over our collective ear space). for starters, he produced his most recent track, “just what i am” (ft. king chip). but it doesn’t stop there mr. cudi also directed the video. stay tuned for kid cudi’s forthcoming album ‘indicud’ via good music. peace.
