Soul Clap // EFUNK

According to their official biography, “Before today is yesterday and after tomorrow is the future, Elyte and Cnyce’s paths were crossed for all time when a Sun Ra light beam sent from Saturn collided with the P-Funk Mothership and sent them tumbling to earth. Now, Soul Clap time travels on a musical spaceship of dopeness.” Yes, that’s how it all went down, and aren’t we the lucky ones to now have this space-traveling and soul sound-bending duo  (Cnyce and Elyte) bka Soul Clap amongst us? And, we thank the universe for delivering Soul Clap safely unto our collective ear spaces.  I’m just thankful their EFUNK album is now living and breathing amongst us mere mortals, and just you know it’ll blow your hair back. The 13-track album in now available on iTunes for your pleasure. So, do you and your own private Idaho a favor and cop this moment in space for all of eternity, or at least until the mother ship comes and collects us. Peace. Continue reading “Soul Clap // EFUNK”

Deidre & The Dark // Don’t Blame Me Now

Deidre (of Savoir Adore fame) has a style drawn for an abundance of influences. I hear dashes of Morrissey, a sprinkle of Portishead and a smidgen of Robert Smith/The Cure. But the music is also heavily steeped in classic 50’s and early 60’s girl groups, think i.e. Patience And Prudence and The Lennon Sisters, you get my drift, right? Nonetheless, the song “Don’t Blame Me Now” from the Curious Parcel EP (2011) is some kind of wonderful. I’m lovin’ it! Peace. Continue reading “Deidre & The Dark // Don’t Blame Me Now”

heRobost // Lover’s Duet (Ft. 2pac & Notorious B.I.G.)

Yeah! You witnessed Rap legend Tupac Shakur make his posthumous debut at Coachella in all his holographic majesty this week and wasn’t it grand? And now sit back and let this club banger wash over you! This track is spliced, diced, and served up extra nice by none other than ATL’s very own Hayden Kramer bka heRobost and in his very capable hands “Lover’s Duet” turns out smooth like butta’! Play it loud. Oh! Before it slips my mind, right here and right now you can cop a FREE DOWNLOAD of “Lover’s Duet”. Peace. Continue reading “heRobost // Lover’s Duet (Ft. 2pac & Notorious B.I.G.)”

born ruffians // countdown (beyoncé cover) video

Hailing from Ontario, Canada the band Born Ruffians are Luke Lalonde (guitar/vocals), Mitch Derosier (bass), Steven Hamelin (drums) and Andy Lloyd. And yes, they make beautiful rock indie music effortlessly, and recently they’re def one of my favorites bands to listen to. The boys are holed up in the lab right now, doing what they do, i.e.  making great music! I imagine soon enough they’ll sprinkle us with songs laced with fairy dust aplenty. But, until then let’s just enjoy a Beyoncé cover, as well as, a trip or two down Born Ruffians memory lane. Peace. Continue reading “born ruffians // countdown (beyoncé cover) video”

Beachwood Sparks // Myth

it breaks
silently
no a flood
but it dreams to be

these tears
are emotion
overflowing

these tears
are no myth.

According to Sub Pop Records’ Bud Scoppa, “Some albums were made to be played on a Saturday night. The Tarnished Gold LP by Los Angeles’  Beachwood Sparks is meant to be played on a Sunday afternoon. Listening to Beachwood Sparks’ first album in 11 years is like being under cobalt blue skies and smelling the night-blooming jasmine on a perfect spring day in Los Angeles.” Now, who can argue with that, except why limit your listening experience to a Sunday afternoon? And their utterly heart melting song, “Myth” well I’ll end with this. Some songs just start you thinking about moments. Moments suspended in time and melancholy. Hell, it even inspired me to pen the poem preceding this review. I hope it puts a wan smile upon your heart as well. The bands forthcoming album is scheduled to drop June the 26th. Peace. The Black Atlantic // An Archer, A Dancer (Video)

“Darkling I listen; and, for many a time
I have been half in love with easeful Death,
Call’d him soft names in many a musèd rhyme,
To take into the air my quiet breath;
Now more than ever seems it rich to die,
To case upon the midnight with no pain, While thou art pouring forth thy soul abroad
In such an ecstasy!”
~John Keats

For those who have been following this blog for a while you know of my great appreciation for the band The Black Atlantic. They had me with their debut album Reverence For Fallen Trees don’t you know. And now, with their latest album Darkling, I Listen I’m even more over the moon about them. They’ve even got a new video for their song, “An Archer, A Dancer” and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. Enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “The Black Atlantic // An Archer, A Dancer (Video)”
