Cherub – Monogamy

Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber are at it again and as promiscuous as ever, musically speaking that is. A good tune gets around, and it just can’t help making a reputation for itself, traveling from one ear to another.  J.K. and J.H. have a knack for taking a song and transforming each note into pure seduction. Collectively known as Cherub these guys “do” music like porn stars have sex. And like their namesake implies they are spreading, if not love, then a whole lot of pheromone laden passion around your ear-space. With their latest release “Monogamy,” the first single from their forthcoming Mom & Dad LP they are setting a tone. And the tone is both risqué and stylishly ribald; and when you’re talking about bump-n-grind music those are good attributes to have. Cherub is making a name for themselves as the music to soundtrack booty chasing nights and covert rendezvous to meet up with your favorite friend-with-benefits. So, pimps and pimpettes listen up. Mitten Mouth Music’s Best Of 2011

Well, here we are savoring the last dregs of 2011 and what a year in music it has been. So many bands, so many songs. And although we’ve only been doing this since August Mitten Mouth Music has amassed nearly 300 hundred reviews thus far. Yes, we’ve been busy little beavers around here for sure. Now comes the hard part. The almost nearly impossible task of culling the herd, and selecting our Mitten Mouth Music Best of 2011. Our only hope is that you enjoy these selections just as much (or more) than we do. With so much music to choose from, will it be Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble, A Classic Education, or Mozart Parties? Dear Winesburg – Light & Deft EP

Time for planting and tending the crops is over. The season for harvesting is too long past. It is the dead of winter and the birds have south flown. Now, we must avail ourselves to live on what is at hand, nothing more. Tug on those long-johns, and upon those go the tweed trousers. Tuck in your thick flannel, pull on a weighty sweater too and don thine cap. Stoke the flames and have a bit of whiskey. Still, even then the cold gets in without a lover to love. Right now Dear Winesburg is my chosen bedmate, and their incredible EP Light & Deft is the howling wind and the falling snow of the season, but the beautiful music is also the antithesis of this barren season too. Howler – The Back Of Your Neck

Minneapolis band Howler sound like they know how to rock out. Jordan Gatesmith (vocals / guitar), Ian Nygaard (guitar), France Camp (bass), Max Petrek (keyboard) and Brent Mayes (drums) are winning over many new fans in droves. Also, the five-piece has been spending a lot of time in the studio putting the finishing touches on their full-length, America Give Up. Their debut EP This One’s Different is out now. Expect the forthcoming LP America Give Up to drop January 16th 2012 UK/Eur and stateside January 17th. the twilite tone // mean machine

What you know about Twilite Tone? If it isn’t much we’ll make allowances owing to the fact that we’re just catching on too. I’ll say this, any one who DJ’s for Common is cool with me. Those in the know, proclaim Twilite Tone is the sound of Chicago, and I’m not about to argue with such proclamations. Tone, a prolific DJ for the past 20 years, with deep roots steeped in Techo and the House sound is kicking up a whole lot of extraterrestrial dust as of late (as if he’s ever stopped) . All I know is my ears are feeling “Mean Machine,” in all its funky/bouncy/spacey oddity. His first EP Mean Machine will make your feet lust after the dance floor. Peace. Factory Floor – Two Different Ways

London trio Factory Floor is the kind of band I can get lost in for a lot reasons. Nostalgia being the foremost reason, and the ability to sculpt a new and varied form out of distant echoes. Immediately, their music recalls such groups my ears still have wet dreams about, i.e. Joy Division and New Order name a few. Sam Amidon – How Come That Blood + FM Belfast Remix

The gift of music, if its the right music, will keep on giving, and giving. Thanks to our friends from FM Belfast for sharing and introducing me/us to Sam Amidon. I’m rapacious for new music and I’ve been listening to “How Come That Blood” remixed by FM Belfast since FMB Tweeted the link, and I already love it. After searching for the lyrics the song may have so many meanings, but likely allegorical as befits the season. I have also posted Sam Amidon’s album I See The Sign via bandcamp. Merry Christmas!
