Sufjan Stevens – Damascus

It’s a warm sweater // My lover’s breath in my face // A harkening of pinned flame to lips.

This song, let it soundtrack every wondrous occurrence worth remembrance. The beauty of Sufjan Stevens is simply the honest nature of his tenderly crafted songs. I’ve been listening to this fellow Michigander as of late, and the rarefied song “Damascus” is a constant favorite. Grab you lover tonight and enjoy. Peace.

Jonquil – It’s My Part

If it is a national custom for the British to have a spot of tea on a daily basis, then instead of sugar I’ll take a healthy dollop of  the Oxford four-piece Jonquil and a couple biscuits. The track “It’s My Part” is off their forthcoming third album Point Of Go. The new LP  set to drop March 5th 2012. Cheerio!

Bowerbirds – Tuck The Darkness In

Coincidences exist in this world to show us how everything is connected in sometime unexpected ways. When I first listened to the the Bowerbirds one of the first impressions I got was the distinct tranquility and beauty of the music, and how it reminded me of some of my favorite bands:  Blind Pilot, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens, Horsefeathers and of course Bon Iver. Then after I started doing a bit of research I discovered the band has a close affiliation with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and his Wisconsin studio (part of their album was recorded there). Having said all of that it means nothing without a musical offering from Bowerbirds, listen to “Tuck The Darkness In” and feel how it seeps into your bones. Their forthcoming album The Clearing via Dead Oceans is scheduled for a March release, I’m marking it on my calender now. Peace.

Tree – People (Ft. Shelf Nunny & Lena Kuhn)

The first struggling notes get your attention. These notes soon sprout into flickering electric bits fleshing out a beautifully morbid soundscape. Not to fret though, its all towards a delicately attractive end. The song “People” is an ode with roots encircling all of us; our own mortality is called front and center and it shines. The San Francisco artist Oliver  Nickell aka Tree has enlisted the services of Shelf Nunny and Lena Kuhn on this wonderfully mundane track. Give it a listen and get in touch with your inner Tim Burton. Peace.

the weeknd // the knowing (official video)

Imagine. Create. See. & Dream. Welcome to the visual creative synergy of wunderkind The Weeknd and Mikael Colombu. Not many get it right. They did. As exquisite as Mr. Abel Tesfaye‘s music is this video is just as impressive and beautiful; and being an art history student the symbology is impressive too (horns, owl, Nemes headdress, etc.). The song “The Knowing” is from the album House of Balloons released to critical acclaim in 2010. If you like this offering (you will) then definitely cop the full Monty for free here. Peace. Oughtasight – Losing My Mind

I popped open this song like a chilled can of your favorite carbonated beverage. It fizzled. Hissed. Releasing a mist of pure effervescence; so refreshing. I am impressed (not an easy feat) and a bit elated. This guy Oughtasight sculpted an ideal blend of acid jazz, hip hop with whimsical pop references; and riding above the fray such witty and observant lyrics. It’s a winner winner chicken dinner.
