fleet foxes // the shrine/an argument + video

Imagine the loneliness of this song, how it has traveled eons and ages, so far just to be here and now. My hat off to the guys from Seattle for creating such soulful and vision inducing fare. If you’ve listened to Fleet Foxes before then you know it changes you, or like a peyote trip it conjures up visages of inner-deep stirrings (at least for me) which transport you hither and yon. Then we’re treated to such a visual as the video for “The Shrine/An Argument” and we hang our collective mouths stupefied and drooling. I’ve watched this many times already, and I’ll surely watch it again and again. Dream me, I’m pinched. Peace. Continue reading “fleet foxes // the shrine/an argument + video”

The Truth – Handsome Boy Modeling School (Ft. Roison & J-Dilla)

A thing echos because it cannot die, doesn’t want to give up the ghost and risk forgetfulness. So, it reverberates from the past and slithers and slinks a way into your heart space. It sets its eyes upon your ears and whispers in jazzy notes, enwraping your brain cells in coiled shimmer; laying claim to your full attention. Yes, this is a blast from the past but how it shines, Handsome Boy Modeling School (Chest Rockwell (Prince Paul) and Nathaniel Merriwether (Dan the Automator), circa 1999. I ain’t much for words around here, so just chill for a beat or two and experience something potent and oh so powerful. I’m serving up two songs here, “A Truth” taken from The Musical Curriculum From The: Handsome Boy Modeling School (1999) and then there is their sexily clad “I’ve Been Thinking (Ft. Cat Power)” from HBMS‘s  2004 LP White People. Your ears will fall in love. Peace.

“I’ve Been Thinking (Ft. Cat Power)”

Star Slinger – Dumbin’ feat. Reggie B (Diplo Remix)

Take Reggie B‘s smooth vocals, add dark side of the moon bass, then pour this concoction all over honey warm synths and what you get is what Philadelphia-based DJ Diplo has wrought. Teaming up with Star Slinger on the remix of the Manchester producer’s first ingenious single “Dumbin’ (feat. Reggie B).” Diplo is one of those reliable cats you can depend on to consistently bring it, and this isn’t an exception. This is the perfect track to chill to, and contemplate your next best move. Peace.

Young Jeezy – F.A.M.E (Ft. TI)

It’s been a minute since Young Jeezy gave us something to ride out to. But as the old adage goes, “absence makes the groove bump harder”, or something like that. And what is extra nice is listening to TI do what he do on the track. Young Jeezy’s New Album TM:103 Hustlerz Ambition is set to drop December 20th. Peace.

P.S. I snuck in a bonus, peep “I Do” below the below, and thank me laterz.

“I Do”

Fur Coat & Argenis Brito // Space Ballad (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix)

Crosstown Rebel is known for its dynamic artists, now their very own Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine,  known collectively as Fur Coat, make their debut with a totally monster  tech-funk groove.  Check out  “Space Ballad” its an extraterrestrial space jam from parts unknown. But the ecstasy doesn’t stop there, this time out the London/Berlin-based producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinasaur got his primordial mitts on it and has taken it through a black hole of spectacular sound. Strap yourself in and don your space suit because we’re planet hoping to this one. Peace. Continue reading “Fur Coat & Argenis Brito // Space Ballad (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix)”

Chris Malinchak – No Secrets (ft. Damon C. Scott)

Not that you would, but if you could somehow inhale certain sounds and the outcome would equal the effects of certain hydroponically grown substances, would you be game? No? How about if said sounds were akin to those created by Chris Malinchak? Before you answer click and have yourself some of “No Secrets” featuring Damon C. Scott. Nice huh? Now, if you’re ready for more, hustle on over to French Express for another round of the remaining 3 tracks from the immaculate Vilette EP. Peace.

Childish Gambino – Heartbeat (aRod Remix)

Sir Donald is riding high these days, and I suspect in more ways than one. With the release of his stunna’ LP Camp (which dropped Nov. 15th) there comes a smidgen of validation. Yes, self-proclaimed squares are not only cool; but this one can rap his ass off too. And not that it means anything, but Camp is currently resting at #2 on iTunes these days. What’s all the fuss about Childish Gambino you may ask? I’ll just let you rock out to “Heartbeat” superbly remixed by aRod.  “I’m going straight for your thighs like the cake you ate!” Stop it D. you’re killing ’em. Peace.

Yelawolf f. Gangsta Boo & Eminem – Throw It Up

Listening to Yelawolf is akin to the puff-puff-pass theory, in that you want to share such excellent herb with your homies. So, its no surprise that we’re offered more of the same: mind numbing spliff smoke par excellence with silky sick flows and merciless walk-on-water beats, check out “Throw It Up” with Gangsta Boo and his majesty Eminem, and really there isn’t much more to say because the music speaks for itself. Yelawolf‘s debut studio LP Radioactive drops November 21st via Shady Records, a day I suspect will live forever on in Hip Hop infamy. Mark my words Yelawolf, aka Michael Wayne Atha, is gonna’ blow big time, and for one reason: he has the natural raw ability to hang, and many cases exceed, most rappers out here right now. Need proof? Check out his 2010 mixtape Trunk Muzik. Peace.
