wordlife // breakthrough + small talk ep

wordlife  //  breakthrough + small talk ep

It’s Monday and since I don’t regularly imbibe in coffee-nated (made up words are my thang) beverages music often is the “thing” to get me going in too early hours of a new day. Check out the Aussie dj/producer combo wordlife and their blood revving Small Talk / Breakthrough EP. After the jump listen to the Doc Daneeka LGO Remix of Small Talk and shake sumpin’. Peace.

teen // carolina

Taking in the new video by NYC-based TEEN is like shooting rainbows and moonshine into your eyeballs. Not that I know this little metaphorical referential tidbit from personal experience but who cares. What’s important is the psych-rock driven Carolina is deliciously good, and the video gives any viewer reason to smile a dreamy smile. By the way, the track is taken from the band’s Carolina EP available now via Carpark Records. Peace. Continue reading “teen // carolina”

canyons // blame me

If your looking for a place where music seems to grow from the ground and into your brain like an invasive species of earwigs, then Australia is that place. Electronic music making duo the Canyons are serving up something special with their latest Pink Gin EP and it’s first single Blame Me. I love it and hopefully you will too. Peace. The “Blame Me” 12-inch is out right now, with the digital version to follow on July 30th via Club Mod. Peace. Continue reading “canyons // blame me”

jake mattison // golden friend

jake mattison  //  golden friend

Jake Mattison is a man set free. Out of the darkness and into a blessed light, we are charmed by the bejeweled and triumphant songs of this mere man. Each note thrums warmly up and down his latest song Golden Friend. Listening to his pain muddled timbre, it is easy to hear it’s bluish, wrung out and forthright triumph. And while Mr. Mattison is no braggart his song has plenty of reason to puff up it’s chests and hold a beautifully turned out head high. The Golden Friend EP drops July 15th just about everywhere you could want it. Peace. Continue reading “jake mattison // golden friend”

rankin // stagger ep (our sunday best)

rankin  //  stagger ep

The new sun-drenched Stagger EP by dj/producer Rankin bears all the earmarks of the multidimensional chill thrill Californian environs and vibe which it was created in. With ocean spray vibrancy and sun shiny neon disposition this one will keep you in good spirits for as long as you play it. The good times don’t vacillate either, they stay consistently on target delivering all five tracks straight to the heart of what it means to stay Zen.

riton // suckers (ft. rita ora & le dust sucker)

riton  //  suckers (ft. rita ora & le dust sucker)

My plan for today’s music is simple. I am going to ratchet it up then bring it back down.

Starting with the latest release from dj/producer Henry ‘Riton’ Smithson, check out his bouncy electro machine-gun style Suckers featuring Rita Ora and Le Dust Sucker. As a kid Riton got his first taste of the electronic music seen when he heard Wen Bomb The Bass and MARRS “Pump Up The Volume, and now he’s influencing a generation of would be mix-masters with his own special blend of electronic music wizardry. For the best of Riton check out his releases on  Carte Blanche records and his Lost My Mind EP. Peace. Continue reading “riton // suckers (ft. rita ora & le dust sucker)”

until the ribbon breaks // 2025 + video

until the ribbon breaks // 2025

Imagine if Philip K. Dick or Ray Bradbury delved into music or even better their twined DNA accidentally got exposed to Gamma rays and mutated. If said accident ever took place perhaps the end result wouldn’t be much of a negative after all and instead we’d get the gorgeous catastrophe called Until The Ribbon Breaks. I am but a mortal man but even I an appreciate the extraterrestrial and enigmatic beauty of the their music. In watching the video for 2025 one gets a peek of the apocalyptic  reality of a possible future earth, and the lyrics, which are sheer horrific beauty:

I was born with my back to the stars
Turn me over, I’d like to see
Here comes the morning to end our dream
Turn me over, I’d like to see
I was born with my back to the stars
Please see that they tell my truth
Please see that they tell my truth

So who’s your favorite superhero?
Or did we lose the fear?
Or maybe we just don’t need saving
But while we’re here
Could you tell me when the lights come on?
This does not feel like home
If it’s something that I paid for
It should be something that I own

So don’t we look pretty with nowhere to go?
It’s cool to be lonely, didn’t you know?
I think I’ll marry a stranger that I met online
It’s not that it’s not love, it’s just a sign of the times
Of the time

If only we could learn some patience
I’ll take a course
Or maybe we should split the money
Go straight for divorce
Could you tell me when we fall in love?
Or just write it down
Let me know if you find my feelings
Just if you see them around

So don’t we look pretty with nowhere to go?
It’s cool to be lonely, didn’t you know?
I think I’ll marry a stranger that I met online
It’s not that it’s not love, it’s just a sign of the times
Of the time

Oh, I need a feeling, I need a fix
To take me on driving, we could sleep in the stakes
It’s too much, too easy, long for the chase
I long for the gaps and the words, I long for the space

So don’t we look pretty with nowhere to go?
It’s cool to be lonely, didn’t you know?
I think I’ll marry a stranger that I met online
It’s not that it’s not love, it’s just a sign of the times
Of the time.

If I were a record needle this is the perfect vinyl grave I would love to be buried in. Check out the accompanying video after the jump. Also, if you like the band’s first single Pressure then you’ll love Village Remix. Peace.  Continue reading “until the ribbon breaks // 2025 + video”

capitol cities // love away

Capitol Cities are channeling Sir Paul McCartney on their Love Away track and I ain’t mad at ’em one bit. It’s a great song with an equally great vibe. And the chorus, “Love, just love away, just do it every day, just do it every way.” I mean really, who can argue with that kind of logic? Not I. The song is the last song on the duo incredible In a Tidal Wave of Mystery LP which debuted recently. I’ve also included their wonderful Staying Alive Remix for all you Bee Gee fans. Bee who? I know right…lol. Also, if you head over to Google Play you can get a FREE DOWNLOAD of the track Kangaroo Court for a limited time only. Peace.

the other tribe // my girl (full vocal mix)

The bass-heavy, deep house influenced sound of The Other Tribe is just the sort of music combination made for summer. The Bristol-based The Other Tribe offer up their My Girl single for you aural consumption and you don’t need utensils or a napkins. So forget table manners and get your nom nom on by the earful. This track makes me feel nude in a good way laying beneath starry skies and the breath of a full moon shining down whilst I dance the night away, ok maybe not. The Other Tribe are bunkered down in-between shows at their studio alongside producer Mark Ralph (Hot Natured, Hot Chip, Digitalism), distilling their hedonistic live performances into the tracks that will form their debut album. I will keep you posted. Peace. Continue reading “the other tribe // my girl (full vocal mix)”

the hood internet // doin it good + kanye west + daft punk + free download

the hood internet   //  doin it good  +  kanye west  + daft punk + free download

Summer 2013 pretty much belongs to Daft Punk and the release of their much lauded Random Access Memories LP. Point and set. Yet, there is another artist who’ll also be remembered in the year of our lord MMXIII. Enter Mr. Kanye West and his groundbreaking Yeezus LP. And as big as the former two acts are (they’re so not acting) there is two unsung heroes of the summer (and spring, autumn and winter too).

The Chicago-based dj/producer duo known worldwide as The Hood Internet. These guys are the precious golden thread, who often conjoin the urban with the suburban, taking the grit and grime and the globally inaccessible then carefully stitching them together like Siamese dreams. But on a higher plateau The Hood Internet perform a greater service, as global ambassadors: bridging cultures and gettin’ the party started. They rock the rural and roll the sublime, blending them into a potent tonic poured over sub-zero and multifaceted crushed ice. It’s a hard concept to understand without experiencing it firsthand or in this case firstear.

If you missed it then you’re in for a treat, as you listen to the superlative mash-up. The “Doin It Good,” remix takes the Hip-Hop fun of Kanye’s Good Life and marries it to the effortless euphoria of Daft Punk’s Doin’ It Right. This is an “all day everyday” anthem. Also, peep The Hood Internet’s The Mixtape Volume Seven. It is jammed packed with goodies and hoodies. Peace.
