pretty lights // a color map of the sun + documentary + video
If you or anyone you know is a Pretty Lights fan this is the ultimate brass ring of PL fan-dome. For well over two years Pretty Lights (Derek Vincent Smith) spent collecting behind the scene footage from studio sessions across the country with a litany of well known and barely (all talented beyond belief) musicians and vocalists, the project partnered with VICE – and their electronic (EDM) and forward thinking music channel, THUMP – to tell the story of A Color Map of the Sun. But as exciting as the documentary is what’s even better is the forthcoming album entitled Live Studio Sessions: from A Color Map of the Sun which contains 13 of the raw unmolested analog tape recordings that were pressed to vinyl in order to sample for the album. , it drops July 2nd. The Live Studio Sessions recordings are on the 2nd disc of the A Color Map of the Sun CD set. Live Studio Sessions will also be included as part of the free download of A Color Map of the Sun via www.prettylightsmusic.com and on the deluxe version of the album in digital music stores. If an individual is judged not only by his accomplishments but by their creativity and influence then David Lynch gets a solid and uncontested 10 out of 10. It seems like Mr. Lynch has an innate ability to keep things perpetually fresh and eternally innovative. The song and video for his latest I’m Waiting Here featuring the pie-voiced Lykke Li is bedridden with the opium of dream and the sensuous texture of ecstasy.

My favorite Minnesota band (Sorry, Now, Now) Poliça has a new song (and video) wherein lead vocalist Channy Leaneagh interrogates her doppelgänger to a literal bloody mess. Let’s see, there’s punching, choking and bit of water boarding for good measure. Sounds like a recipe for throwing a “Tiff,” if I ever saw one. But violence aside, the song also features Mr. Justin Vernon and is taken from the band’s forthcoming sophomore release Shulamith out later this year.
