saintseneca // mallwalker

Music so good if you threw it up into the air it’ll rain down upon you like sunshine.

Columbus, Ohioans and band Saintseneca do amazing things with music. In very capable hands, and heart, the trio’s music is blown like glass into fragile odes of sheer beauty. And although it’s been a while since we heard any news on the horizon in regards to a new full-length November saw the release of the Saintseneca EP which, “Only The Young Die Good,” is taken. Here’s hoping there is a new album in the works for 2013. Until then let me share another new track titled, “Mallwalker“. This is a live session recording with Zac Little doing what he does best; call-fire down from the mountain with his amazing soul-stirring voice. Also, by visiting the band’s Bandcamp page there’s a free download just waiting for ya’. Peace. Continue reading “saintseneca // mallwalker”

hiatus kaiyote // tawk tomahawk

Music as séance calling forth the spirit of chilled out atoms to stimulate the multiverse into a state of total blissed out harmony.

Also breaking on This Kid Is A Problem (TKIAP) is the Australian jam-band Hiatus Kaiyote. The group is co-produced by Uche Uchendu and the incomparable Erykah Badu. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia and conjuring up sonic images from a wide variety of influences, R&B, Neo-Soul, Jazz, World Music, etc. Their album, ‘Tawk Tomahawk‘ dropped earlier this year, and to date is hands down definitely one of the most slept-on releases of 2012. Lead vocalist Nai Palm unsheathes a voice so radiantly profound it defies dislike and draws you into her world of musical bliss.  Hopefully, this eclectic ensemble with its jazzy overtones and sub-zero vibe will get the exposure and recognition they so richly deserve. After the jump check out a jam session to see them in action, and hear what all the fuss is all about. By the way, you can cop a FREE DOWNLOAD copy of the band’s Tawk Takeout Tawk Tomahawk Remixed via bandcamp. Peace.

balistiq // mixtape

This bangs like the heartbeat of a supernova.

Initially coming up through the ranks as drafters of supreme beats Balistiq (Ryan & Andrew) have more than paid their collective dues. The brotherly duo is now perfectly poised to take over heads everywhere. Their  mixtape via TKIAP, smokes like supreme Cubano cigars, and puts on display the phenomenal skill set that separates the merely good from the sickly dope. This is exemplar ridin’ music to rattle your trunk and fog up your eardrums with that extra funky. And the fun doesn’t dry on the wall just yet, you can get the whole enchilada as a FREE DOWNLOAD.

aimedeuxhaine // vice

The artist otherwise known as Aimedeuxhaine has released the ‘SOMED EP ‘.  This is a 7-track chillwave extravaganza ringed with swirling synths and subterranean beats fit for late night excursions into sub-space. frank ocean // wiseman

Frank Ocean is that rare artist inhaling the exhalations of angles’ dreams, then he opens his mouth and the stars weep rivers.

Although I have written extensively regarding the young and super-talented Mr. Frank Ocean, I find myself penning yet another ream of inadequate words in an attempt to describe the magic of yet another gorgeous song titled, ‘Wiseman‘. The official word, is originally the song was supposed to be included in Quentin Tarantino’s deep dirty southern film ‘Django Unchained‘soundtrack. But alas, it didn’t come to pass.  It’s ok though, ’cause we still have this beautiful song released out into the world for us all to enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “frank ocean // wiseman”

cosmonaut grechko // singin’ (ft. joywave)

It only takes a moment to get acquainted with your new favorite artist.

Lo-fi synth-pop got a fresh new candy-colored coat of shimmering space dust via this 2011 release. And of you’re looking for somebody to blame, then Cosmonaut Grechko is the talented culprit. Dropped over year ago CG’s ‘Alaska 2100’ EP was met with rave reviews and then some. So, just in case you missed it, well here’s your chance to give your ears something magnificent to listen too. You can also cop the release via iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “cosmonaut grechko // singin’ (ft. joywave)”

jade hopcraft // saint

When such beauty hits you, you are left spellbound and in awe, perhaps even gasping for more.

At times I stumble across amazing and wonderful songs which leave me breathless and I am immediately taken under their wing.  There is much comfort in one’s ability to get lost, and found, in the simple uncomplicated beauty of song. These occurrences remind me that life and living is still full of pleasant surprises aplenty. Jade Hopecraft is one such surprise, this young Cornwall, U.K. transplant sings carefully penned odes with a kind of spiritual serenity which enable the listener to suspend all earthly worries. Listen, as her song “Saint,” washes over you. Afterwards, one feels, if not totally redeemed, then at least buoyed. Also, check out the B-Side which offers up the hauntingly beautiful, “Habit,” the Saint single release is available via iTunes and Amazon. Peace. Continue reading “jade hopcraft // saint”

parenthetical girls // rejoice! rejoice!

Perched eloquently atop all the hope of the season comes good tidings from afar.

Portland, Oregon-based foursome Parenthetical Girls have composed and released an ethereal, yet beautiful set of Christmas songs. And quite frankly this compilation embodies (and exceeds) all the sonic elegance one has come to expect from Zac Pennington & Co. Currently, their gorgeous song “Rejoice! Rejoice!,” is available for free downland via soundcloud. In addition, I ardently implore all seekers of things precious and beautiful to head over to the band’s bandcamp page to listen to, and purchase the complete 5-song ‘Good Christian Men Rejoice, It’s Parenthetical Girls’ EP. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Peace. Continue reading “parenthetical girls // rejoice! rejoice!”
