bill & murray | a new kind of high
The band Bill & Murray are a recent discovery. It has only been a mere 48 hours and I am still hitting repeat. The band’s A New Kind Of High release out now courtesy of Other Voices Records is a collection of seven amiable tracks and one unforgettable one. The first song Simplicity ignites the wick and provides a comforting and illuminating light.
The album picks up steam and warms the wax with the title track a New Kind Of High. But the album reaches a post punk tinged apex with what the grungy smear Bored has to offer. This one is dirt beneath your fingernails, bloody knees and just enough angst to be rude and only slightly threatening. The next song in line is another keeper, the electronically bouncy Scissors. This is a song that does a good impersonation of an outed agent provocateur with Ms. Gotshtein’s lithe vox intoning, “So help me to be so good since my tears don’t intimidate you and I’m not used to being handled so delicately…”
Something To Fear uses blocky beats and a militant vibe to lay it on a bit dark and sticky, this one left me checking the locks on my windows and double checking the doors. The next tracks Rabbit Hole and Sweet Sensation run past my ears like blurred scenery on the way to the absolute gem of the album The Silence Grows. Saving the best for last was definitely the move here. and it is a fitting maneuver. Because it let’s me know that the ensemble that is Bill & Murray are capable of greatness and I cannot wait to hear what they will do next. Peace.

The Silence Grows: Lyrics
Across my heart i once built a fence
you broke it down so now it’s wide open
the sky fell down but no one cares
where you left me is where i stand
Smile even if it hurts
It’s funny how the waves come back
even when the shore gets mad
and so it goes, the silence grows.
