San Fransisco based indie dream pop rock duo Cathedrals release new material with their latest track Howling. The track wafts into your ear space with a low thrumming bass line intertwined with atypical fingered guitar work. But it is the “get to me every time” vocals of Ms. Brodie Jenkins that is the hook in the fishes mouth. The band is finishing up work on their yet untitled album, and hopefully it will be another reason 2016 will be the best 2016 ever! Oh wait! Before you go make sure you head on over to the Hype Machine and give the Howling track all of your ❤. Peace. Continue reading “cathedrals | howling”

Oh Wonder captivate me. Period. Here’s a singing/songwriting duo (Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West) with such unpretentious beauty and simplicity, and if your not careful they’ll win you over big time. OW has released the visuals for their Lose It track. Lose It was the sixth song the duo released on their wonderfully joyous year-long sojourn of writing/producing a new song every month until the debut of their spectacular self-titled release Oh Wonder. It was, I can only imagine, a daunting task but alas they pulled it off swimmingly. Back to the video. I love this video because it surprises in a very joyous way, and it doesn’t rely on fakery or special effects to conjure such genuine childlike wonder. That’s all I am letting on about, no spoiler am I. Check it out after the jump. And if you haven’t already pick this album up STAT. You will not be disappointed.

P.S.
Missed you guys in Grand Rapids, Michigan (I am like 45 minutes away FCOL!) Maybe next time. Peace. Continue reading “oh wonder | lose it | official vid”

Whitney is a band that’s woven a song so sweet it’s sure to cause irreversible heart damage. An ode about aimless wandering and love lost. But the song, No Woman, with this melodic euphoria and beautifully enervated vocals (and those damn horns) evoke a quiet steely-eyed strength too. The Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek approach to songcraft sees a mile down the road and lays the path straight and clear. Here’s a song steeped in honeyed green tea and dingy sunlight filtered through a halo of cigarette smoke. My favorite new song of 2016. Here’s to the newly formed Whitney band. Let’s pray there’s a forthcoming full-length album in the works. After the jump, check out the Hugh Donkin directed video for No Woman. Peace. Continue reading “whitney | no woman”

the coathangers | watch your back | make it right

The Coathangers (Julia Kugel, Meredith Franco and Stephanie Luke ) bring the noise and lots of it! Whomever said post-punk was dead is cray cray and obviously hasn’t discovered the rockcore trio that is The Coathangers. Here, they kick your ears in the ass, offering up two ear-bleeding tracks, Watch Your Back and Make It Right. It’s all good stuff here, and I am definitely feelin’ the killa’chemistry and free spirit rockability! You can most certainly Pre-Order the band’s forthcoming Nosebleed Weekend release, it drops April 15th courtesy of Suicide Squeeze Records. The Coathangers lay it down raucously entwined in reams of splintered guitar strings. Basically, Nosebleed Weekend is gonna rip your fuckin’ heart out! Peace. The artist known only as (for now) DVSN is a mysterious bloke isn’t he? Yes, he is. But apart from his anonymity there exists a very talented artist. Currently, we are bearing witness to a sort of music upheaval. Whereas the lines, once very distinct, are now blurred. R&B, rock and additional genres are melding and shifting shape, one bearing the earmarks of another, and so on a so forth, etc. And if the track Hallucinations is the byproduct (and it most certainly is) then let the evolution continue. Get yours right HERE. Peace. Continue reading “dvsn | hallucinations”

Luca Schreiner puts it down with his radiant Roger Sanchez & Stealth Remember Me (Luca Schreiner Remix)! Luca always delivers the goods and we’re definitely better off because of it. I love and appreciates Mr. Scheiner’s consistency when it comes to re-imagining a track. I am still recovering from Mako Smoked Filled Room Remix! Here’s hoping Mr. Schreiner finally puts out a full-length. After the jump get the FREE DOWNLOAD. Peace. Continue reading “roger sanchez & stealth | remember me | luca schreiner remix”

The very adept singer/songwriter Sample Answer comes along and catches you awares. But this isn’t doused in ice water startled. No, more akin to pleasantly surprised and pleasant is good. Like bumping into an dear old friend in a strange new city. Or re-reading forgotten love letters you discovered in a shoe box in the back of the closet. Sample Answer’s music is a kind and benevolent type of miracle music: for it comes at you in gentle waves of serenity with beautiful finely penciled lyrics. Songs like, Gold Boy, No Need To Stay and my personal favorite and pick of the litter, Hold On To Me. Check out his very good Good Boy EP and his latest batch of gorgeous odes can be found on his latest Textile Baby EP. After the jump set your eyes on the official video for Textile Baby and let your back bone slip. Peace. Continue reading “sample answer | good boy ep”

Travis Scott deals listeners a straight flush with the release of the single Wonderful Ft. The Weeknd. The track is a lightweight banger with the left hook jab that is the soulfully pliant vocals of Mr. Tesfaye. Good stuff. A bit grimy. A bit trap. And chill enough to elevate your mood whenever. For more check out Travis Scott’s latest album Rodeo out now via Epic Records. Enjoy. Peace. Continue reading “travis scott | wonderful ft. the weeknd”

Oh what is this magic Ra Ra Riot brings?! If there was ever band of such effervescent and euphoric joy, well yeah, them. And the band’s latest release Absolutely isn’t much of a surprise. Not that the song isn’t good, it is. I am not complaining, not even a lil’ bit. Listening to Absolutely is akin to being dunked in a vat of adrenaline and buzzing around with an overcharged battery. Not even kidding. We’re so looking forward to the release of the band’s forthcoming release Need Your Light which drops February 19th courtesy of Barsuk Records. Check out the official video after the jump. Peace. Continue reading “ra ra riot | absolutely”
