new desert blues // adam

There is a lot of good music coming out of the U.K. and the South Coast band New Desert Blues is a raising the bar even further. There latest song, Adam is all kinds of rough and ready with just the right amount of folkish/rock twang.

In regards to the  video, director Jack Bowden explains,  “Adam, is act one of a two act music video I shot for New Desert Blues. We flew out to the desert with a script, some actors and some camera equipment. This is what we flew back with. Act two, Zachary will be released soon.”

New video, new debut single, looks like a good start for this newly formed band. Also, peep their SoundCloud for a few additional demos. Peace. Continue reading “new desert blues // adam”

nadine carina // where i love ep

I love curled up comfortable and cozy ears deep in her music.

If you’re pining for a rich musical medium in which you can plant dreams and watch me grow, well Nadine Carina is fertile ground for such endeavors. The Where I Love EP sounds like 50’s girl pop amidst Italian ice shavings and a healthy squirt of simple syrup. Yes, these songs are both cool and sweet. The Where I Love EP is available via Bandcamp. Peace. Continue reading “nadine carina // where i love ep”

hands // brave motion + official video

The official Johnny Woods-directed/animated video for Brave Motion from Hands, is a full-blown color smeared action movie montage (by the way, love the care crashing in the helicopter). The song hails from the  debut LP Synesthesia out now courtesy of Kill Rock Stars Records. Is it me or does the guitar on this song echo that of Jonny Greenwood’s work on Radiohead’s Weird Fishes Arpeggi? Peace. Continue reading “hands // brave motion + official video”

brave motion // hands

The four-piece band of the Summer 2013 will likely be Hands. Any band that can take the best parts of indie music scene and build such a monster sound is bound to amass a huge following. The track Brave Motion is awash with an herculean sonic force which will leave you not only breathless, but hungry for more. I haven’t heard the whole album yet, but if the songs, Brave Motion and Trouble are any indication of what’s lurking on their debut LP, Synesthesia, courtesy of Kill Rock Stars, then count me in. You can cop the new album on Bandcamp. Peace. Continue reading “brave motion // hands”

jay arner // don’t remind me

The song Don’t Remind Me is a melancholy ode with the heart of a steam engine, and Jay Arner, although unassuming, is a master of the understatement. Although he wears many hats and has has been all over the place doing all things music, this very capable singer/songwriter/producer has grasped the brass ring and is set to release his self-titled debut album Jay Arner this summer via Mint Records. I can’t wait to hear more from this talented Canadian. Peace. Continue reading “jay arner // don’t remind me”

classixx // holding on + borderline + video

In regards to the band Classixx two is the lucky number.

From the Los Angeles-based duo Classixx (Michael David and Tyler Blake) check out the first tracks from their soon (May 14th, 2013) to drop debut album Hanging Gardens. Both songs, Holding On and Borderline, have a bouncy vibrancy which is well suited for the coming Spring. The songs are now available before the complete album drops via iTunes. Peace. dark dark dark // how it went down

The bright happy music of the world has its moments, but the sad songs just treat me better. – d. durand

The album Who Needs Who by the Minnesotan band Dark Dark Dark was one of a few hidden gems which was released last year but it may have flew below your radar. The good thing about penning a music blog is the ability to rectify those lapses in musical exposure (lol). Seriously though, the track How It Went Down is rife with introspection coiled sweetly around sweet somber sound. Vocalist Nona Marie Invie sings with such honesty it would be impossible to shade the truth whilst under her spell. The albums first single release Tell Me is just as beautifully effective. You can get a copy of this gorgeous album via iTunes. Peace. Continue reading “dark dark dark // how it went down”
