casa del mirto // the haste

I have a question, how many electro/chillwave/dream pop bands do you know from the The Boot or more commonly known as Italia? Well, the Italian band Casa del Mirto is perhaps the premiere electro export from the land of fashion and pizza. I’ve been digging around the internet and found their latest release Taxus Baccata EP on Bandcamp. Also, via iTunes more of their unique style of music can be had. I really enjoy the sinuous and sexy track, “Haste” which was a single release circa 2010. But, this band has a truck load of additional lovely songs, from the romantically somber to more than a few that’ll make you wanna dance. Peace. Continue reading “casa del mirto // the haste”

heavenly beat // tradition

John Pena is the smooth like butta’ incarnation of Heavenly Beat and the lovely song, “Tradition,” just melts in your eardrum so sweetly. This song is all pastel and muted color galore. But, it is also effortless and packed to the brim the sensuous and chill. You may want to listen to a few of this bands other gorgeous tasting songs at iTunes. Desire. Messiah. Faithless. Suday. All of them totally bathed in chillwave aesthetics, and that’s a good thing. Also, Heavenly Beat will be dropping their debut album Talent on July 2th via Captured Tracks. Peace. money // i’ll be the night

This foursome of young men make the kind of music that is both reminiscent of dying embers or shooting stars upon which to hang a somber wish. And here the B-Side track “I’ll Be The Night” to the A-Side song “So Long (GodIsDead), both of which are possessed of such luminescence and beauty one could easily use them as beacon to guide one’s lonely soul home. This is a band on the rise, but for now it’s nice to keep it’s small bright flame cupped in our hands secreted away for late night musings. The single So Long (GodIsDead) was released in April via French label Almost Musique. Peace. Continue reading “money // i’ll be the night”

slow magic & beat culture // once

What happens when bands collide? Well, I don’t know about other acts, but the shimmery fall out from a Slow Magic and Beat Culture collision is the docile and dulcet song, “Once”. And, it’s a free download. Peace.

how to dress well // ocean floor for everything

The music project known as How to Dress Well‘s latest track is  the equivalent of another bullet in the chamber of the most capable of seducer. It opens with lush tones indicative of dreamscape rather than song. Then Tim Krell’s vocals crash every so tenderly against your ear and it’s a wrap.  “Ocean Floor For Everything” is taken from HTDW‘s forthcoming 2nd LP Total Loss, look for it this coming Autumn via Acéphale. Dntel // Still

James Scott “Jimmy” Tamborello bka Dntel is a lot things, but it’s his skill at composing wickedly chill electronica that has garnered him the most attention.  The track “Chill” is a perfect example of his ongoing and ever-expanding oeuvre. Most recently, his latest LP titled Aimlessness is total dream production. This release is 12-tracks of gorgeously sculpted music; it’s the stuff burning candles and iridescent moonlight listen to when they want to vibe out. You can also check out his superb internet show Dying Songs exclusively at dublab, which is the perfect accompaniment to chill evenings spent maxin’ and relaxin’. Peace. Brothertiger / / Lovers

John Jagos is most definitely Brothertiger. And the music, well it speaks for itself. With the release of his latest LP Golden Years out now, Brothertiger is setting himself up nicely for a stellar 2012. Check out the track, “Lovers” and you’ll hear the reason for my heart-on-the sleeve enthusiasm for this Toledo, Ohio native. And if you need further inducement to fall head over heels, listen to BT‘s  cover of The Smiths old school classic “Ask” it’ll kiss you right on your sweet spot,  Hush! You know where it is. And if you’re thinking Brothertiger is new to the music scene, think again. There is a trove of music just waiting for you undivided attention over at his bandcamp, check it out. Peace.   Continue reading “Brothertiger / / Lovers”

Air Tycoon / / Land Locked

There resides within the music of Air Tycoon poetry aplenty. Epic tomes stitched through with canticles and the laughter of mermaids frolicking amongst whitecaps and the cry of seagulls. There are arias too, beleaguered and redolent with beauteous moods, and deep within these sounds swirls nautiluses and the gossamer breath of long-winded eternity. Joe Garcia bka Air Tycoon is a young architect of audibles trills, an apprentice of the highest order, and he erects sonic edifices with little effort, yet with much meaning in the heart of the listener. I can only bow my head and offer a soul-felt thanks you. Peace. Continue reading “Air Tycoon / / Land Locked”

Neon Indian // Fallout (Video)

From the pop culture bad boys over at Adult Swim they’ve recruited the alternate reality guru of all things not right in the universe Lifuchs to conjure up titillating visions for Neon Indian‘s Era Extraña’s far-out groovy “Fallout” video. And don’t you just love animated cartoons of the adult variety? I do, and boy oh boy is this something you’ll not soon forget. Definitely not safe for work and just shy of an R-rating. And for all those reasons it is sure to garner loads of interest. And yeah, just in case you’re wondering the song is pretty good too, even if the visuals are literally stealing the limelight from the audio. In this case  the song “Fallout” is the supporting cast for the scene stealing video and not the other right way around. Peace. Continue reading “Neon Indian // Fallout (Video)”
