Memory Tapes – Offers

If I could take the tender budding tendrils of a spring flower and the last embers of a dying flame and give these fragile objects a sound them Memory Tapes would be it. Yes, there is fragility here, but most of all there is beauty. And what is chillwave if not beautiful. New Jersey-based Dayve Hawk aka Memory Tapes, has penned “Offers” and it is as delicate a song as they come. It makes me want to crumple into my bed and dream of far off vistas. I hope you enjoy it too. For more, visit Carpark Records. Peace.

Small Black – Moon Killer

Brooklyn chillwave/synth-pop quartet Small Black follow-up last year’s diabolically good New Chain LP with a mixtape to tide fans over. The mixtape is set for a November 11th release. Check the title track “Moon Killer” below. Enjoy. Peace.

Simian Ghost – Bicycle Theme

Simian Ghost

Let’s get things moving right along, but at a decidedly subdued pace. One thing I want to say, Simian Ghost is just what the music doctor ordered. Like a gossamer sugar-coated screen filtering out the harsh light of an unrestrained sun. That said, the latest offering from Simian Ghost is total bliss. The song “Free Agent” taken from Simian Ghost’s sophomore release, the Lovelorn EP (released through Heist Or Hit Records).  Sebastian Arnström thank you so much for penning such lush and beautiful music. The Radiant Arp Mix is killing it. Another thing, my hat off to all the DIY indie music makers out and about in the world. You guys and gals are keeping it fresh to death. Peace.

Young Galaxy – Peripheral Visionaries

Young Galaxy – Peripheral Visionaries

Have you had a chance today to just sit back and relax? Not that you necessarily need any dolled up multicolored noise to do so, but hey it doesn’t hurt. Montreal’s Young Galaxy, Stephen Ramsay (guitars, vocals), Catherine McCandless (keyboards, vocals) and bassist Stephen Kamp, create music that somehow has the same affect as talking a vexing conundrum out with a good friend or therapist, you pick. But without a doubt it is also music to sway your hips to. Young Galaxy‘s sophomore effort Invisible Republic is riddled throughout with little capsules of joy. Also, you gotta’ love their cheekily adorable video for the single “Peripheral Visionaries” . Check it. Peace.

Lip Color EP

Lip Color

Although this Lip Color EP has been out since June it hasn’t lost its new car smell. With its drowsy half-lidded electro-Pop sound it is hard not to take notice. I was already in love with the fair city of San Diego, but now that love has just gotten a little bit deeper. I going to ask for San Diego’s hand in marriage and Lip Color will be our love child.

Toro Y Moi – How I Know

Tora Y Moi

The perfect feel good music, bright, not too sweet, and easy on the ears. Toro Y Moi is all these things and then some. The native South Cackalackian, that’s South Carolina for all the uninitiated, is finally getting the recognition he so rightly deserves. Born Chazwick Bundick way back in the day, and now going by the moniker Toro Y Moi, he has created for himself a music that is mixed with the best of several genres, from R&B, Rock, Electronica, etc. the sound has been aptly described as chillwave, I couldn’t agree more. The track below, How I Know is taken from the Underneath the Pine EP, and the accompanying video involves murderous female ghosts looking for a few friends, creepy and funny just how an horror music video ought to be.
